Are you looking for beautiful ways to decorate your dining room this holiday season? If you’re drawn to warm, classic colors, consider decorating with burgundy Christmas decor.
This year, I’ve been seeing a shift toward deeper, richer colors — jewel tones, moody palettes, and warm metallic accents seem to be trending.

I’m loving that my burgundy Christmas decor taps into this trend naturally — mixing faux florals, fruits, and dried orange slices for a traditional holiday look.
Burgundy Christmas Decor Inspiration
My inspiration for this year’s burgundy Christmas decor actually began long before the holidays.
Do you remember, back in the summer, when I stumbled upon the prettiest bundle of faux florals at a thrift shop and then found a scraggly floral arrangement with gorgeous fruit and pretty stems at a yard sale?
I used them to create a centerpiece and a garland for our Thanksgiving table, and I loved them so much that I wasn’t ready to put them away.

Instead, I took everything apart and reimagined the burgundy and gold florals, leafy stems, and gorgeous fruit for Christmas.
The final result is a traditional Christmas dining room filled with rich hues, classic textures, and meaningful pieces I’ve enjoyed collecting over many seasons.
Christmas Dining Room Decor Ideas
Styling the Mantel with a Christmas Garland and Wreath

I always begin decorating the dining room by styling the mantel because it sets the mood for the entire space.
And since I needed a specific number of flowers for this area, I wanted to finish it first so I could use whatever was left on the tree.
Creating the Christmas Garland

To create the look, I layered two different types of evergreen garlands across the mantel and let them drape naturally down the right side.
Once they were in place, I tucked a large burgundy hydrangea into the center, added a gold hydrangea to each end, and filled in the length of the garland with smaller blooms pulled from my thrifted floral arrangement.

Next, I added pieces of fruit along the garland and down the draped side.
Some pieces came from the thrifted arrangements, while others were collected over the years.
To add more texture and depth, I mixed in stems and greenery picks from the same thrifted bundle.
Once the florals and fruit were arranged, I nestled two coordinating ribbons throughout the garland for softness and color.
The final touch—and my favorite part—was adding dried orange slices.
They bring a natural pop of warm color and tie in beautifully with the overall burgundy Christmas decor theme.
Coordinating a Christmas Wreath
After finishing the garland, I turned my attention to the wreath hanging above the mantel.
I started with a sugared fruit wreath that I’ve had for so long, I can’t even remember where I bought it—but it remains one of my all-time favorite pieces of Christmas decor.
To help it blend perfectly with this year’s theme, I dressed it up with a few of the thrifted flowers and added several dried orange slices.
I considered using the same ribbon as in the garland, but ultimately preferred the look without it.
The wreath complements the mantel beautifully and completes this traditional, fruit-inspired Christmas moment.
Adding Candles and Stockings
To complete the mantel, I added six brass candleholders in varying heights—three on each side of the mirror—and topped them with long burgundy taper candles.

I also hung two burgundy stockings I found at the same thrift store where I bought the faux flowers.
It’s a fun little connection, and the stockings tie perfectly into the rich, traditional color palette while adding a cozy, festive touch.
Decorating the Christmas Tree with Burgundy and Gold

This year, I decided to switch things up in the dining room.
I usually place a slim tree in this space, but I wanted to try a full-size tree—and I’m so glad I did.
We received this beautiful tree from King of Christmas last year, and I’ve been thrilled with it ever since. (You can read all the details here.)
Start with a Topper

To create the look, I started with the tree topper.
I attached two long sugared fruit picks together, and they added the perfect amount of height and sparkle to the top of the tree.
Add Ornaments

From there, I began decorating with my largest ornaments—velvet orbs in burgundy, forest green, and black.
Since black isn’t part of my color scheme this year, I placed those on the back side of the tree as fillers and tucked the burgundy and green orbs deeper into the branches for depth.
Next came one of my favorite touches: the fruit ornaments I’ve collected over the years.

I especially love the beaded grapes, apples, and pears I purchased from Pier One Imports more than thirty years ago.
Their rich color and texture complement my burgundy Christmas decor.
After that, I added all of my gold and burgundy orbs, letting them shine against the greenery.
Fill in with Stems and Flowers

To soften the look and make the tree feel fuller, I tucked in stems, hydrangeas, and other faux flowers I thrifted this summer.
They added just the right amount of texture and warmth.
Tuck-in Ribbon

Then, I selected ribbon pieces that matched the mantel’s ribbon, twisted them, and tucked them around the tree for a cohesive look throughout the room.
Finish with Something Special

As a final touch, I added dried orange slices, which bring a natural pop of color and tie the whole theme together.
Don’t Forget the Base

For the base, I used an inexpensive wicker tree collar I picked up at Walmart a few years ago.
Incorporating a Burgundy Christmas Sleigh

During the summer, I found a charming miniature sleigh at a yard sale, and its rich burgundy color made it perfect for this year’s theme.
I placed it in front of the Christmas tree to create a playful but elegant focal point.
To make it stand out, I nestled two small tabletop trees inside the sleigh and decorated them with tiny glass gold and burgundy ornaments and dried orange slices.

Each tree is finished with a burgundy velvet bow, tying the look together beautifully.
This little vignette adds personality to the room and reinforces the moody, festive palette—proof that one thrifted find can become a standout piece in your holiday decor.
Creating the Perfect Dining Table for Christmas

The dining table is one of the room’s focal points, so I wanted to carry the burgundy Christmas decor theme through the centerpiece and place settings.
With a mix of classic pieces and a few simple DIY touches, the table came together beautifully.
Creating a Festive Christmas Centerpiece

To bring the burgundy Christmas theme to the center of the room, I created this layered, festive arrangement.
I started with a candle holder featuring three metal stands for pillar candles, surrounded by faux sugared fruit and burgundy leaf stems—an old favorite that already had the perfect foundation for this look.
To help it blend seamlessly with the rest of the decor, I tucked evergreen picks around the base for a fuller, more seasonal feel.
Instead of candles, I placed the faux pineapple from the yard sale arrangement on the center stand, then balanced the look by adding a beaded apple on one side and a sugared pomegranate on the other.
For height and texture, I mixed in some of the spikey stems from the same thrifted arrangement and added a few dried orange slices for a warm, handmade touch.

Finally, I set everything on a beautiful burgundy table runner I purchased from Amazon, which anchors the centerpiece and ties the entire dining room together.
Styling the Table with China, Crystal, and DIY Napkin Rings
To complete the table, I brought out our china and crystal, which pair beautifully with the traditional burgundy color palette, placing them on gold chargers.

Then, I laid a burgundy napkin that matches the table runner on each plate, layered a small sprig of greenery and a dried orange slice, and created simple DIY napkin rings using gold cord.
They add a subtle hint of natural texture and echo the room’s orange accents.
It’s an easy project that adds a warm, personal touch to the place settings and helps the entire tablescape feel cohesive.
Adorning the China Cabinet
The china cabinet is so fun to decorate for Christmas because it adds so much charm to the dining room.
This year, I carried the burgundy theme upward by creating a small garland for the top and styling the shelves with sentimental items we’ve had for many years!
Creating a Small Christmas Garland for the China Cabinet

To tie the china cabinet to the burgundy theme, I draped a simple evergreen garland across the top.
Then I tucked one of the leftover ribbons from the mantel and the tree so the colors would flow throughout the room.
In the center, I added a cluster of faux grapes for a rich, old-world touch. I used the last of the leafy stems from my thrifted floral arrangement to fill in the garland and add some pretty texture.
Finally, I finished the look with dried orange slices for a natural, festive accent.
Styling the Shelves with a North Pole Christmas Village
When our boys were young, I began collecting the Department 56 North Pole Village pieces.
Many of them were gifts from my mom, and her favorite was Nee Nee’s Dolls and Toys—the boys called her “NeeNee,” so it has always been a special piece in our home.

We displayed the village every Christmas until we moved to Florida, but for some reason, I never found the motivation to put it out again… until this year.
Once I committed to a traditional burgundy theme, I realized these sweet buildings would match perfectly.
Even without the lights (there’s no outlet inside the cabinet), the village still adds so much charm and sentiment.
I divided the buildings across the three shelves, then filled in the spaces with small trees and figurines to complete the display.
Final Thoughts
I hope this gave you some inspiration for creating your own burgundy Christmas decor this season.
It was so much fun pulling together pieces I’ve loved for years, mixing in my thrifted finds, and adding those dried orange slices for a fresh, traditional touch.
