Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start, and what better way to embrace the season than with a Spring Home Organization Challenge?
As the weather warms, we’re shifting our focus to the outdoor zone of our home—tackling spaces like the garage, porch, vehicles, and yard.

But don’t worry—this is a self-paced challenge, so you don’t have to work outside if it’s still cold where you live.
You can work on any area of your home that needs attention!
But, if you’re anything like us, you probably need to declutter your garage, refresh your porches, and spruce up the yard, so this challenge will help you tackle these areas (or any spaces you define) in the months ahead.
Ready to get started?
Here we go!
Organize by the Season

If you’re new here and wondering about our process, here’s a little explanation.
Each season, we organize one zone of our home!
Here are the zones:
- Outdoor Zone (Spring): When the weather is nice, we tackle the outdoor spaces of our home, including the garage (shed), porch (patio, deck), attic (unfinished basement), cars (camper, boat), and yard.
- Personal Living Zone (Summer): These rooms are personal to each individual who lives in our home: primary bedroom, additional bedrooms, closets (bedroom, linen, cleaning), primary bathroom, and extra bathrooms.
- Entertaining Zone (Fall): The main rooms a guest would frequent when coming to our home: entryway, living room, dining room, family/playroom, and guest bedroom/bathroom.
- Working Zone (Winter): We regularly work in the office, kitchen, and laundry rooms. The kitchen is a big job, so we separate it from the pantry. We do the same in my office by organizing the paper clutter and craft supplies on different days.
Now that you know how our seasonal challenges work, let’s discuss what’s happening this spring!

Did We Meet Our Goals For The Last Challenge?

Reflecting on our Winter Home Organization Challenge, it’s time to assess our progress!
Let’s discuss the tasks we accomplished, and which ones still need attention.
Goals we met
I’m happy to report that we almost met all of our goals.
One took quite a bit longer to complete, but it’s almost finished!
Here’s what we did in our home’s working zones (kitchen, office, laundry room).
- First, we freed up our cramped cabinets and organized our kitchen appliances!
- Then, we finally figured out a clever way to organize our grill tools. It’s working so well; I wish we had done it sooner!
- We needed a better way to organize our large platters, so Rich built me a plate rack in the kitchen! It’s finished and we’ll be sharing the DIY soon! I can’t wait for you to see it, it’s so pretty!
- In the office, we switched our storage shelves but did not change any of our organization systems. (So, there is no new post, but you can see our last year’s organized office here.) We have a big home improvement project we’re working on, so we moved the shelves from our living room into the office, and the old office shelves went upstairs to store home decor items (which we’ll discuss in a minute.)
- The laundry room is one of the few spaces in our home that stays neat and tidy all year long. It functions very well and just needed some deep cleaning! You can see the last time we organized the laundry room here.
- Purged last year’s papers from our files. We still have not gone totally digital, if you’re in the same place, you can see how we organize paperwork here.
Goals we did not meet
- Guess what? I finally tackled the sitting room off our guest bedroom! It’s where I store all of my out-of-season home decor items. It was a mess, and I felt completely overwhelmed and kept procrastinating. But the good news is, it’s looking great and I’m almost finished organizing it. It has inspired me to write a post about how to organize when you feel overwhelmed by a space! Look for that in the near future!
- And the goal we did not meet—purging digital clutter! You all, I just keep procrastinating on this. It’s so silly, but I can’t find a strategy that I’ll stick to! I just need to add a time block to my day to tackle this, but other things seem way more important. I do it for a while and then let other items take precedence. Someday, I’ll reach a zero inbox! If you have any good advice, let me know!
Conclusion
We’re ready to set new goals for our spring home organization challenge and get outside to spruce up our outdoor spaces!

Love that you share these seasonal decluttering and organizing goals, Donna. They help so much! Our garage is a constant source of crazy and yours always gives me a burst of inspiration. I simply have too many home decor items that I’ve kept over the years for seasonal vignettes and projects that I need to let go! On a side note, I’m giving up procrastination for Lent and I can’t wait to hear your tips and tricks! Cheering you on as you continue to make progress on your goals, CoCo
Thanks CoCo! The challenge helps keep me on track, otherwise I would procrastinate a lot more, lol! If I didn’t set goals, I would never get anything done! Thanks for stopping by and happy organizing!
