Our Grill tool Storage
We live in Florida and enjoy grilling outdoors year-round!
What we don’t enjoy is trying to find the tools we need in this messy kitchen cabinet.

We’ve been storing (obviously piling) our grill tools on the bottom shelf.
So, when we organized our kitchen appliances a few weeks ago, we were determined to come up with a better way to store these items.
And this is what we chose!

A pegboard in our pantry!
It’s such a relief to have this project done!
Let’s get started!
Why You Should Organize Grill Tools
Grilling should be a fun and stress-free experience, but a cluttered and disorganized setup can quickly turn it into a frustrating task.
Here are some key reasons why organizing your grill tools is essential:
Saves Time and Reduces Stress
- When your grill tools are neatly stored, you don’t have to waste time digging through drawers, cabinets, or storage bins to find what you need.
- A designated storage system ensures every tool has a place, making it easy to grab and go when it’s time to cook.
Improves Grilling Efficiency
- Having your tools within arm’s reach allows you to focus on cooking rather than searching for misplaced tongs or spatula.
- Organizing tools by type and frequency of use helps streamline the grilling process, making it easier to switch between utensils quickly.
Extends the Lifespan of Your Tools
- Proper storage protects grill tools from rust, dirt, and weather damage, especially if they are kept outdoors.
- Hanging tools prevents them from being scratched, bent, or damaged in cluttered drawers.
Enhances Safety
- Sharp tools like grill forks and knives can pose a safety hazard when tossed loosely in a drawer or left on a table.
- An organized system keeps dangerous items securely stored and out of reach of children and pets.
If you organize your grill tools, you’ll create a more efficient, safe, and enjoyable grilling setup.
Now, let’s talk about a clever way to keep your tools in order—using a pegboard system!
Organize Grill Tools With A Pegboard System

A pegboard system is the perfect solution if you’re looking for a simple, efficient, and visually appealing way to organize grill tools.
A pegboard is an ideal storage solution for grill tools because:
- Everything is visible and within reach – No more searching through drawers or bins!
- Customizable layout – Arrange tools based on size and frequency of use.
- Maximizes wall space – An excellent option for a pantry, garage, or outdoor kitchen.
- Easy to install and maintain – Simple to set up, and tools stay neatly in place.
Here’s everything you need to know to set up a functional pegboard storage system for your grill tools.
Determine Where to hang your pegboard

We have the perfect spot in our pantry.
There’s a couple of feet of wall space between our pantry door and the shelves.
We’ll relocate the broom, dust pan, and step stool behind the door.
Here are a few more ideas:
- If mounting outdoors, look for a covered or protected area to prevent weather damage.
- Consider installing it in a garage, shed, or outdoor kitchen if you prefer an enclosed space.
- Make sure the surface is large enough to accommodate all of your tools.
Choose a pegboard
- We purchased a wood pegboard. They are also available in metal and plastic.
- Choose a size that fits your space—standard options range from 2×4 feet (the size we purchased) to larger panels.
Select Hooks and Accessories
- We purchased a peg board organizer kit to familiarize ourselves with the different options.
- Whatever we don’t use for our grill tools will be saved for a pegboard Rich wants to add to our garage.
- You can purchase a wide variety of hangers individually for your pegboard.
Install the pegboard

- Secure the pegboard- Attach the board to the wall using screws and anchors, ensuring it’s level and securely fastened. If mounting on brick or concrete, use appropriate masonry anchors.
- Add spacers for easy hook installation. If the pegboard is mounted directly against a wall, use spacers (about ½ inches) behind it so the hooks can easily fit into the holes.
Arrange Your Tools

- Group similar tools together – Keep spatulas, tongs, and brushes in designated areas.
- Discard items you don’t use- Donate or sell any grill tools you no longer need.
- Hang frequently used tools in easy-to-reach spots – Place essentials at eye level.
- Adjust as needed – Rearrange hooks and accessories to fit your evolving needs.
A pegboard system is a practical way to organize grill tools.
Now, let’s explore other smart storage ideas in case a pegboard isn’t the right fit for your space!
Other Smart Ways to Organize Grill Tools
While a pegboard system is one of the most efficient ways to organize grill tools, it might not be the best fit for everyone.
Whether you have limited wall space, need a portable option, or prefer a different aesthetic, there are plenty of other creative ways to keep your grilling essentials neat and accessible.
Grill Tool Caddy or Utensil Holder
A grill tool caddy is a great option for storing your grill tools in a portable and convenient way.
- Easy to carry – Perfect for moving tools from storage to the grill.
- Keeps everything together – Reduces the chance of misplacing utensils.
- Great for outdoor kitchens and camping – Works well for on-the-go grilling.
Tip: Choose a stainless steel or weather-resistant plastic caddy to withstand outdoor conditions. Look for one with multiple compartments to separate tools and accessories.
Magnetic Strips
Consider using a magnetic strip to hold metal grilling tools for a sleek, space-saving solution.
- Minimal wall space is required. It can be mounted on the side of a grill, cabinet, or outdoor kitchen.
- Instant access to tools – Grab and go!
- Modern, clean look – A great option for contemporary outdoor setups.
Tip: Use a strong, rust-proof magnetic strip designed for kitchen knives to ensure it securely holds heavier grill tools.
Drawer Dividers for Outdoor Kitchens
If you have an outdoor kitchen with drawers, use drawer dividers to keep grill tools organized.
- Keeps tools protected – Prevents scratching, bending, or rusting.
- Reduces clutter – Everything has its designated space.
- Great for smaller grilling tools – Perfect for thermometers, skewers, and basting brushes.
Tip: Use adjustable dividers or bamboo organizers to customize the layout based on your tool sizes.
Hanging Hooks or Rail System
Install a hanging hook system near your grill for a simple, efficient, and space-saving method.
- Ideal for small spaces – Can be mounted on walls, the side of a grill, or a deck railing.
- Customizable setup – Add or remove hooks as needed.
- Budget-friendly solution – A great DIY alternative to a pegboard.
Tip: Use S-hooks or a stainless steel rail system for durability and a polished look.
Storage Bin or Tool Box for Seasonal Storage
If you only grill seasonally or need a way to store tools when not in use, a sealed storage bin or toolbox is a great option.
- Protects tools from the elements – Keeps them safe from rust, dust, and moisture.
- Portable and stackable – Easy to move and store in a garage, shed, or basement.
- Great for extra tools and accessories – Ideal for backup utensils, grill covers, and fuel accessories.
Tip: Use a waterproof, airtight container with dividers to keep tools neatly arranged and prevent rusting.
In Conclusion

We are so thrilled with our new pegboard system!
No more digging through the cabinet to find the last skewer!
If you love to grill, there’s a storage solution that will work for you!
Whether you prefer a pegboard for maximum organization, a magnetic strip for quick access, or a portable caddy for convenience, the key is finding a system that keeps your grill tools organized, protected, and ready to use.

Such a great use of vertical space, Donna, I love this. It’s the perfect way to grab your bbq tools as you need them and it makes things way easier to put away as well. Totally genius! Hugs, CoCo
