Unfortunately, they are too big to hold small pieces of candy.
So, I decided to create smaller, apothecary-inspired candy jars that are perfect for displaying seasonal sweets.
Crafting With Glass
Today is The Handcrafted Society’s monthly gathering, and I’m thrilled to be part of this talented group!
Each month, we come together to share creations centered around a specific theme or craft medium.
This month, we were challenged to use glass in a DIY and manipulate it in some way!
So, I’ll turn these plain glass jars I bought from Hobby Lobby

And transform them into this!

An adorable set of DIY candy jars that are cute and functional, too!
You can make just one jar or an entire set, like we did!
Steps to Make DIY Candy Jars
Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own DIY candy jars!
Gather Materials

Gather the following materials to complete this project:
- Three glass jars- 23 oz, 17 oz, and 10oz.- Hobby Lobby (40% off every other week)
- Wood candlesticks- 6.85”, 4.9”, and 4”- Amazon
- Wood circle plaque- 6 (four per pack; you’ll need two packs)- 4” Hobby Lobby
- Laser wood discs- 3 (four per pack )Hobby Lobby
- Wood finials- 3 (three per pack) Hobby Lobby
- Razor hand saw
- Gator Sander
- Tack cloth
- Paint- Waverly white
- Paintbrush
- Wood glue- Gorilla
- E6000
Prep

Before assembling your candy jars, complete the following prep work:
- Remove the end of the finial with a saw and sand the bottom until smooth.
- Check all wood pieces for rough spots or edges, then sand and wipe away dust with a tack cloth.
- Remove stickers from the jars and wash them thoroughly with soap and water. Allow them to dry completely.
Paint The Wood
We’re painting our candy jars white so we can use them for any season or holiday!
However, you can paint yours any color you like!

- Paint all wood pieces with white paint and let them dry.
- Repeat the painting process until full coverage is achieved.
- Turn the wooden circles over, paint the backs, and let them dry completely.
Glue The wood pieces

- Use wood glue to attach each candlestick to one of the wood plaques.
- Glue each finial to the remaining wood plaques.
- Allow these pieces to dry overnight before moving to the next step.
Glue The Glass Pieces

- Use E6000 adhesive to attach the wood disc to the bottom of each candy jar.

2. Next, glue the wood round with the finial onto the lid of each candy jar.
- Since the lid has a plastic ring around it, it may not sit level on a flat surface.
- To prevent shifting, turn the lid upside down and place it in a juice glass while it dries.
3. Let the adhesive dry for 24 hours to ensure a strong hold.
Attach the base

- Use wood glue to adhere the candlestick base to the wood disc attached to the candy jar.
- Turn the jar upside down, and allow the glue to dry completely before putting the lids back on your candy jars.
Assemble DIY Candy Jars
Once the base is dry, turn them right side up and put the lids on your beautiful DIY candy jars!
Here’s a look at the finished product:

Embellish DIY Candy Jars
To match the season or holiday, add decorative ribbons, festive tags, or other embellishments that coordinate with your celebration!

I added pink ribbons for Valentine’s Day and filled the jars with pink, white, and red candy!
Here are a few ideas to inspire your creativity for different occasions:
- St Patrick’s Day – Use a green or gold ribbon with shamrock charms or stickers for a festive look.
- Easter – Attach pastel-colored ribbons and mini faux flowers for a springtime feel.
- Halloween – Wrap the jars in orange and black ribbon and add small plastic bats or pumpkins for a spooky effect.
- Thanksgiving – Decorate with rustic twine, small leaves, and acorn embellishments for a cozy autumn aesthetic.
- Christmas – Tie a red or green plaid ribbon around the jar and add a small ornament or bell for a seasonal touch.
- Birthday Parties – Customize with ribbons in the birthday person’s favorite colors and add a fun tag with their name.
You can easily swap out decorations throughout the year, making these candy jars a versatile and reusable addition to your holiday decor!
Display DIY Candy Jars

I’m showing off our beautiful handmade candy jars on the kitchen counter.
You could put yours on a coffee table or dining table or incorporate them into a holiday display!

Ours are filled with M&Ms, Kisses, and Sour Patch hearts!
You can add colorful candies, cookies, or small treats that suit the occasion.

We put the candy jars on a small wood tray and draped it with a DIY reversible heart clay garland!

Good morning Donna! These treat jars are adorable. I love that you can reuse them for other holidays and customize them to coordinate with your decor. Wishing you a Happy Galentine’s Day! Pinned!
Hi Anna! Thanks! I love how they turned out and can’t wait to use them throughout the year! Happy Galentine’s Day to you!
What a fun way to celebrate all the festive holidays, Donna! I can totally see using these not only for Valentine’s Day but gold coins for St. Patricks and pastel colored candies for Easter too. The littles would be bananas for these! Hugs, CoCo
Thanks so much CoCo! It’s going to be great fun figuring out ways to use them for each holiday!
What a great idea, Donna! I love that you can use these all year long!
Thanks so much Kim! Yes, I’m looking forward to using them all year long!
So cute Donna! I’m afraid those darling candy jars would put me over the ability to resist all that yummy bites! Such a fun mix of components.
Thanks Diane! I’m going to have to come up with other things to put in them besides candy or we’ll al be gaining weight, lol!!
Adorable, Donna!! Such a cute way to up-cycle plain glass jars for any season! LOVE the white knobs on top…they totally complete the jars!
Thanks Rachel! It was a fun upcycle project and I think those little finials are the perfect touch too!
Donna – First I want to say that I’m so excited to be working with you again! I love this project. My husband brings home candy all the time and I hate the open bag sitting on my kitchen cabinet. This would be such a great solution. I was thinking that it could also hold a tea light candle or some faux flowers if you used them without the lids. So multi-functional. Happy Tuesday!
Thanks a bunch! So glad you like the candy jars Lynn! I will definitely use them in the ways you suggested because we don’t need to eat candy for every holiday. lol!!
Hi Donna, my sweet friend! I love how adorable and versatile these candy jars are! I think they are perfect for switching for the seasons too!
Thank you Amy! I have so much fun decorating for every season and it will be fun to use them in different ways!
Love, love, love, these candy dishes, Donna! The HCS team out did themselves with all of these great projects. These candy dishes are a favorite! They will be fun for Easter too.
Thanks Tammy! I am in awe of the creativity of everyone in this group! I look forward to seeing everyone’s projects each month! So much fun!
These are beautiful, Donna! You are quite the architect! I love how you created such beautiful decor from all of the different pieces. It really highlights the beautiful glass! Great job!
Thank you Missy! They have so much more character now!
Donna, I love the idea of creating candy jars for any occasion! They are so adorable and I love the addition of the cute ribbon! Excellent tutorial my friend!
Thanks so much Michelle! I’m already thinking about how I can use them next!
The jars turned out lovely!
