This season, we’re focusing on the Entertaining Zone—the entryway, living room, dining room, guest bedroom, and family or playroom.

These are the areas your guests are most likely to see, so let’s get them clutter-free, welcoming, and ready for both casual get-togethers and holiday celebrations.
A little effort to organize now will help you feel more relaxed and confident when it’s time to open your doors for fall get-togethers and holiday celebrations!
Organize by the Season

If you’re new to our Fall Home Organization Challenge, here’s the idea: instead of trying to tackle your whole house at once, we break things down by season.
Each season has its own zone, and by the end of the year, you’ll have worked your way through the entire house without the stress of a massive clean-out.
Here’s how it works:
- Fall — Entertaining Zone: This season, we’re focusing on the areas your guests are most likely to see, such as the entryway, living room, dining room, guest bedroom, and family or playroom. Fall is the perfect time to make these spaces cozy and clutter-free before the holidays.
- Winter — Working Zone: When it’s cold outside, we’ll turn our attention to the kitchen, laundry room, and office. We’ll even break the kitchen and office into smaller projects, like tackling the pantry or dealing with paper clutter.
- Spring — Outdoor Zone: Once the weather warms up, we’ll head outside and organize the garage, porch, patio, attic, shed, cars (and even campers or boats), as well as the yard.
- Summer — Personal Living Zone: When life slows down a bit, we’ll work on bedrooms, closets, and bathrooms—your personal spaces where daily routines really happen.
By following the challenge season by season, you’ll stay on track, keep overwhelm at bay, and enjoy a home that feels refreshed all year long.

Now that you know how our seasonal system works, let’s dive into this fall’s focus—the Entertaining Zone!
That means we’ll be decluttering and refreshing the entryway, living room, dining room, guest bedroom, and family or playroom.
The best part?
This challenge is entirely self-paced, so you can jump in whenever it works for you.
It’s your choice whether you organize one room or tackle the entire list—you set the pace that fits your schedule.

In our home, we spend September and October focusing on the Entertaining Zone. Once November arrives, my attention shifts to preparing for the holidays.

Starting the first week of November, I use my Thanksgiving Planner to get everything ready for the big day.

As soon as Thanksgiving is behind us, I switch gears and use my Christmas Planner to get set for the season ahead.
Did We Meet Our Goals For The Last Challenge?

Before we dive into fall organizing, let’s pause for a moment to celebrate what we accomplished during our Summer Home Organization Challenge—here’s what we tackled in the Personal Living Zone!
Goals we met
- Cleaned out and reorganized our pool bag so it’s ready to grab and go (see original post here).
- Gave the primary bathroom closet a quick tidy-up.
- Added a clear pouch to my amusement park bag to corral all my braces essentials—Invisalign case, sugar-free gum, and travel-size floss (see original post here).
- Streamlined dresser drawers and made folding a breeze with a handy new folding tool.
- I’ve found the perfect jewelry organizer, and now all my pieces are neatly stored.
- Decluttered the primary bedroom closet—everything had a place, we just had to rescue items that had landed on the floor or between shelves (see the original post here).
Nothing has changed in our closet, as far as organization goes, so we didn’t write a new post.
However, here are some pictures so you can see the difference!

Most of the items on the floor are things that were put in our yard sale or given away.
I think I’ll put a large box in that corner to place those types of items, instead of letting them pile up!
Now for the opposite corner of the closet!
The Goal We Didn’t Quite Finish

We made some progress on the boxes of sentimental items tucked in this corner of our primary bedroom closet, but we didn’t quite finish the job.
There are still a few boxes left to go through, and the plan is to organize the keepers into our new living room cabinets.
The ultimate goal?
Zero storage boxes in the closet!
With the holidays coming up, we’ll see if we can get to it—but since the boxes are contained and out of the way, it’s easy to let other projects take priority.
And that’s okay!
If this goal gets pushed to next summer, we’ll pick it back up then.
Remember, progress is still progress—even small steps move you closer to your goal.
Final Thoughts

As we head into a new season, I hope this Fall Organization Challenge inspires you to create a home that’s not only organized but also feels both cozy and welcoming.
Remember, it doesn’t matter if you tackle every room on the list or just one small project—every bit of progress counts.
Take it at your own pace, celebrate your wins along the way, and enjoy the peace that comes with a clutter-free space.
Here’s to an organized, stress-free fall and a home you’re proud to share with family and friends!
