And gave it a little makeover to make it more my style!

Then, I layered it on a boxwood wreath I’ve had for years—and I couldn’t love it more!
What do you think of the transformation?
Let me show you how easy it is to turn inexpensive supplies into a charming seasonal wreath!
Gather Materials

Here’s everything I used to create this adorable bunny door hanger wreath:
- Bunny door hanger- Dollar Tree
- Cunky yarn- Hobby Lobby (purchase when on sale) – Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss in Ivory
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Finger protectors
- Chenille yarn for tail- Dollar Tree
- Pom pom maker
- Scissors
- Ribbon- Natural Polka Dot- Hobby Lobby
- White rose ribbon
- Faux burlap flower
- Boxwood wreath– optional, but highly recommended
Steps to Make a DIY Bunny Door Hanger Wreath
1: Prep the Bunny Base

- Start with your Dollar Tree bunny door hanger.
- Mine has a hanger with wood beads that I carefully removed and set aside for later use.
- Remove the price tags, stickers, and embellishments that are raised up.
- If your bunny has glitter or rough edges, you might want to lightly sand it!
2: Wrap the Bunny with Chunky Yarn

- Grab your chunky yarn and start wrapping it around the bunny. After a couple of rows, I realized I was going to waste a lot of the yarn, so I zigzagged my rows on the front instead. You can choose which way you want to do it!
- I started at the bottom and worked my way up, securing the yarn with hot glue as I went.
- When I reached the ears, I returned to wrapping the yarn around the hanger.
- This gives the bunny a cozy, textured look and covers up the original surface completely.
- Important note: Don’t cover the holes for the hanger with hot glue; ensure you still have access to them!
Pro tip: Be careful because hot glue can cause burns and blisters! We recommend using finger protectors—your fingertips will thank you!
3: Make a Fluffy Bunny Tail

What’s a bunny without a fluffy tail?
- I used chenille yarn and my favorite pom pom maker to make a big, soft tail.
- If you don’t have a pom pom maker, that’s okay. Just Google how to make a pom pom—it’s super easy!
- Once the pom pom is ready, just fluff it up, trim any uneven edges, and hot glue it to the back of your bunny.
- Note: The chenille yarn from Dollar Tree makes a huge mess when you cut it, but it makes an adorable bunny tail!
4: Add Pretty Embellishments

- To dress up this already cute bunny, I searched my scrap ribbon box and found the perfect items that were leftover from past projects!
- I wrapped polka dot ribbon around the bunny’s neck and cut two other pieces to hang down from it.
- Then I layered a faux burlap flower and two pieces of delicate white rose ribbon.

Feel free to get creative here—use whatever you have on hand or what fits your style!
5: Reattach the wood bead hanger
Replace the wood bead hanger inside the original holes on the top of the bunny ears.
6: Layer It on a Wreath (Optional, but So Worth It!)
The bunny looks adorable as is, but to give mine a little more presence on the front door, I layered it on a boxwood wreath.
I love how the greenery frames the bunny and adds a fresh, springy touch.
Style Your Bunny Door Hanger
I made this to go on my front door, but it would look fabulous hanging inside or propped up on a mantel or shelf!

Can you believe how cute it is?

I love how this DIY bunny door hanger gives our front porch a warm, welcoming feel for spring.

And I adore how it pairs perfectly with our DIY bunny topiaries!
Plus, this wreath was super budget-friendly thanks to Dollar Tree and a few crafty supplies I already had on hand.
Tips & Variations

This DIY bunny door hanger is super flexible—once you have the base down, you can add your own creative flair!
Here are some fun tips and variations to try:
Yarn Options
- Switch up the texture: For a different look and feel, try using boucle, chenille, or even fuzzy faux fur yarn.
- Play with color: If neutrals aren’t for you, use soft pastels for a sweet spring vibe or bold colors if you want something playful and modern.
- Mix and match: Wrap the bunny in two coordinating yarns—one for the head and one for the body—for a fun two-tone effect.
Bunny Tail Alternatives
- Use the original pom pom tail if you don’t have a pom pom maker.
- Add a felt flower or fabric rosette instead of the traditional pom pom for a more decorative tail.
- Go glam with a sparkly embellishment like a rhinestone button or mini tulle pouf.
Bow & Embellishment Ideas
- Layer multiple ribbons (burlap + lace or gingham + satin) for extra texture.
- Tuck in small florals or greenery sprigs behind the bow to tie in seasonal color.
- Add mini carrots, speckled eggs, or felt bunnies for a fun Easter twist.
Display Options
- Hang it as-is on your door using a ribbon or door hanger.
- For a fuller display, layer it on a larger wreath form, such as grapevine, eucalyptus, or even a floral hoop.
- Attach it to a wooden sign or pallet piece for a porch leaner or wall hanging.
