This year’s DIY neutral fall wreath came together with a mix of thrifted finds, end-of-season bargains, and supplies I already had at home.

With just a few simple steps and some clever tricks to keep costs down, I created a reusable wreath that’s perfect for welcoming autumn.
Let me show you how I did it!
DIY Neutral Fall Wreath Supplies

Gather the following supplies to complete this project:
- Wreath form- thrift store find
- Variety of neutral fall picks
- Pampass grass
- Bunny tails
- White pipe cleaners- Hobby Lobby
- Wire cutters
Why Neutral Colors Work for Fall Decor

One of my favorite things about this wreath is the soft, neutral color palette.
I used white, cream, and light brown colors to create a calm, inviting look that works all season long.
Neutral tones also make it easy to transition your decor from one season to the next.
By simply swapping out a few accents, you can give this wreath a fresh new look year after year without starting from scratch.
How to Make a DIY Neutral Fall Wreath
1) Attach the First Layer of Picks
I used cream colored faux wheat stems to set the tone for my neutral color palette.

Start by adding your base layer of picks to the wreath form.
Space the picks evenly around the wreath, slightly overlapping them to create a full look.

Secure each stem to the wire form with white pipe cleaners.
The white blends in beautifully with the light colors and helps camouflage the green stems, keeping them hidden.
2) Arrange Faux Corn Husk Picks

Next are faux corn husk picks.
I only had three, so I spaced them evenly around the wreath form to keep the design balanced.
Even with just a few, these picks add a lovely texture and help break up the wheat stems from the first layer.
3) Add Faux Pampas Grass
Pampas grass adds soft movement and dimension to your DIY neutral fall wreath.

I started with the shorter white pampas sprays, and I deconstructed them into smaller pieces.

Then, tucked each one into the wreath form.

Next, I took apart the light brown pampas sprays.

And tucked them in carefully so they blended naturally with the other layers.
4) Attach Bunny Tails

Now comes my favorite part: adding light brown bunny tails.
I think bunny tails are the most adorable things ever!

Choose seven in varying sizes, then bundle them together with a piece of pipe cleaner.

Tuck the bundles into the wreath form wherever you need a little extra fullness or texture.
5) Fluff and Adjust

Once all your stems are in place, take a step back and look at your wreath from a distance.
Gently adjust the picks so the colors and textures are evenly distributed.
If you notice any gaps, tuck in extra pieces until the wreath feels full and balanced.
This final fluffing step makes all the difference in giving your DIY neutral fall wreath that high-end, designer look.
Display Your DIY Neutral Fall Wreath
Once your wreath is finished, it’s time to show it off!

I decided to display mine above the fireplace in our dining room for a cozy, seasonal focal point.

To create a layered backdrop, I started with a gold mirror and added four empty white vintage frames across the mantel.

I hung the wreath over the frames, which made it stand out beautifully while still keeping the neutral theme.

To finish the look, I styled the mantel with three glass vases filled with dried florals in soft, neutral tones.

Then, I tucked decorative orbs (recent yard sale find that I painted) beneath the wreath to fill the spaces between the frames.
The result is a warm and welcoming display that highlights the wreath while tying together all the natural textures of fall.
If you don’t have a fireplace, here are a few other ideas for displaying your DIY neutral fall wreath:
- Front Door: The classic spot—welcome guests with a wreath that sets the tone for the season.
- Entryway Wall: Hang it above a console table layered with pumpkins, candles, or lanterns.
- Dining Room Wall: Use it as wall decor to complement a fall tablescape.
- Above a Bed: Add a soft autumn touch to the bedroom by hanging the wreath above a headboard.
No matter where you display it, your wreath will bring the beauty of fall to your home.
Money-Saving Tips for Seasonal Wreaths

One of the best parts about this project is how little it costs to make!
Here are a few ways I saved money when creating my DIY neutral fall wreath:
- Shop end-of-season sales – I found my cream faux wheat and corn husk picks at Hobby Lobby’s fall clearance last year for 75% off. Both types of pampas grass came from Walmart. Waiting for seasonal markdowns is a great way to stock up on high-quality stems for a fraction of the price.
- Check thrift stores for wreath forms – I usually buy wire wreath forms from Dollar Tree, but they tend to be on the smaller side. This time, I scored a larger form at a thrift store for less than I’d pay for a new one, and it makes such a statement!
- Reuse what you already have – The bunny tails in this wreath came straight from my seasonal decor stash. I bundled them with pipe cleaners so they can be easily removed and reused in future arrangements.
- Skip the glue – Instead of hot gluing stems, I attach everything with white pipe cleaners. Not only does it blend in with light-colored picks, but it also means I can take the wreath apart later and repurpose the stems.
These small steps add up to big savings—and they make it easy to refresh your wreath each year without starting from scratch.
Final Thoughts
Creating a DIY neutral fall wreath is such a fun and budget-friendly way to welcome the season into your home.
By mixing thrifted finds, clearance picks, and a few items from your own decor stash, you can design something truly unique that fits your style perfectly.
I love that this wreath’s soft, neutral colors work all season long—and that I can easily change it up next year without starting from scratch.
