They have so many pretty items I would love to have!
However, I don’t want to pay their prices!
So what’s a girl to do?
DIY, of course!
Look at the gorgeous wreath I spotted online at Pottery Barn!
The wreath is on sale and still costs just over $100.00!
I can DIY it for so much less!!
I am excited because I already have the majority of items I need to make this wreath!
Want to see how?
Steps to Make a Fall Pumpkin Wreath
Gather materials
Gather or purchase the following items to make this wreath:
- Grapevine wreath- 24 inches
- Grapevine wreath- 14 inches- Hobby Lobby
- Pruners
- Faux leather leaves- Dollar Tree
- Berry picks- Hobby Lobby
- Variety of faux pumpkins and gourds
- Miniature pinecones- Hobby Lobby
- Wired wood floral picks
- Chalk paint- Annie Sloan in Old Ochre
- Paintbrush
- Fairy Lights- Amazon
- Grapevine wire
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Silicone finger protectors
Prepare the pumpkins and leaves
Before we can make the wreath, we have some prep to do!
Paint
To obtain the neutral look of this wreath, I need to paint the pumpkins, gourds, and leaves the same color!
I painted my faux leather leaves last year to use on these pretty charger plates.
This year, I want to repurpose them to use on this wreath.
Now, let’s paint the pumpkins and gourds to match the leaves.
I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old Ochre.
It took two coats of paint to get complete coverage.
Attach wood picks
I will use wood floral picks because I don’t want to glue the items permanently to the wreath since I change my decor seasonally.
If you want your wreath to be permanent, skip this step and hot glue the leaves, pumpkins, and gourds directly to the grapevine wreath!
If you don’t want to put the stuff on permanently, follow the steps below!
Attach wood picks to the leaves by wrapping the wire around the small brown stem.
Wrap the wire around the top of a wood pick, then insert it into the bottom of the pumpkin and gourds.
Wrap Fairy Lights
Find a spot on the back of the wreath where you can tuck the battery case.
Use floral wire to secure the battery pack to the wreath.
*Tip- check to be sure you have access to the on/off button before you wire it to the wreath!
Wrap the fairy lights around the wreath.
Attach Leaves
Slide the leaves into the grapevine wreath.
If they seem unstable, use floral wire to secure them tightly.
Adhere pumpkins and gourds
Place your pumpkin on the wreath and hot glue it to the leaves.
Be very careful because hot glue can burn you.
I use silicone finger protectors and highly recommend them!
Continue until all the pumpkins and gourds are in place.
Insert berry picks
Insert the berry picks into the grapevine wreath.
I used four picks.
Add Pinecones
If you look closely at the Pottery Barn wreath picture at the beginning of the post, you’ll notice it has brown seed pods.
I could not find anything similar to those in our local stores.
Luckily, I already have a bag of miniature piecones.
I will hot glue the tiny pinecones onto the berry stems to mimic the look!
Disassemble the small Grapevine Wreath
The last step is to add pieces of grapevine over the wreath.
We will use the small wreath for this purpose.
Cut the vine that is wrapped around the wreath.
Pull pieces of grapevine apart.
Cut pieces six to eight inches in length.
Gather four to six pieces together and wrap the ends with grapevine wire.
Tuck the sections of grapevines around the wreath.
Let’s Compare the Wreaths
Below it is the Pottery Barn wreath.
Its original price was at $129.00-$149.00.
At the time of this post, it was on sale for $103.00-$119.00!
Now compare it to my DIY dupe below!
I purchased the 14-inch grapevine wreath and four berry picks from Hobby Lobby for $13.86.
Then, I ordered the fairy lights from Amazon for $6.99.
For a total of $20.85!
I already had the other items!
$103.00 minus $20.85 equals $82.15!
Wow! I saved over $80.00!
That’s why I love to DIY!
Display Your DIY Pumpkin Wreath
I originally made this wreath for my front door, but it looks so pretty in my dining room I may change my mind!!
The neutral color looks perfect with my china cabinet!
I’m so pleased with how it turned out!!
I almost forgot to show you the wreath lit up at night!
Doesn’t it look fabulous at night with the fairy lights on?
Nothing better than a great dupe!!

Rachel-The Antiqued Journey says
It turned out SO good, Donna! You matched it spot on with the PB wreath! I just don’t understand WHY they price their items so high…it’s not like the materials that they used were that much more expensive!
Anyways, your wreath looks amazing and the fairy lights add such a pretty touch. Pinned!
