Are your living room tables looking a little tired or outdated? If so, you’re in the right place! Today, I’m sharing a living room table makeover that includes four beautiful transformations you can easily recreate.
When we moved into our home, the tables I had just didn’t fit the new space—but instead of buying all new furniture, I decided to give them a fresh new look with some simple DIY updates.

From paint to new finishes, each project added style and personality to our home without breaking the bank.
I hope these ideas inspire you to reimagine the furniture you already have!

Let’s get the makeovers started!
Tiny wooden table
This tiny wooden table almost didn’t make it to Florida with us!
It had been in one of the boys’ bedrooms and was in such bad shape that I almost put it in the donate pile.

At the last minute, I found a place for it in the U-Haul and decided I would donate it later if I couldn’t find a place for it.

After we moved in, I realized that the tiny table would work perfectly between my two Louis chairs.
I was so happy I threw it in the U-Haul at the last minute!!!

However, I knew it could be salvaged, so I took that little table out to the garage and started sanding!

Next, I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen; this is the perfect “greige” color because it looks beige in some lights and gray in others.

I decided I wanted it to look a bit grayer, so I chose to seal it with Annie Sloan white wax.
You can see how it changed the color in the picture above.
The top of the table is the French linen paint by itself, and the bottom half has white wax over the paint.

The last step was to distress it with sandpaper.
I roughed up the edges a bit, and it turned out fantastic!

Here is a close-up of the finished product!
I think the color and distressing look amazing next to the chairs.

Here is the table styled between the two matching chairs.
Glass/metal coffee and end table
I purchased these glass and metal tables for my first house way back in 1993!!

I almost sent them to a consignment shop because I was tired of them.
But at the last minute, I changed my mind, and now I’m so glad I did!

The tables were originally a deeper green color, and I white-washed them shortly before we moved to Florida to tone them down.
Unfortunately, they still had a very green cast, which I did not want.

So I grabbed my trusted Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and I started painting!

I wanted them to look older and more worn, so I grabbed my Valspar Sealing and Antiquing wax and got to work!

See how the antiquing wax completely changes the color from bright white to a cream color.

Here is the coffee table after, no more green cast!

And now for the finished end table!
Round end table
I purchased this end table at Kirkland’s several years ago.

I still like the table, but I thought it looked too dark with the rest of the furniture in the room.
So, I decided to use the same paint technique that I used on the glass/metal coffee and end table.

To make it look similar to my bookshelves, I decided not to paint the top and the small shelf on the bottom of the table.

The last step was to seal with wax.
It always looks so scary when you put dark wax over that white paint!
Once you wipe it off, it brings out all the details of the metalwork!

Isn’t it beautiful! I just love the toned-down look the white paint gave it!!
Before and After
I love to see before and after pictures side by side!
It lets you see the dramatic difference that a bit of paint can make.
Here are the before and afters of all four of my living room table makeovers!

My cohesive living room
I adore how all of the furniture pieces in my living room are different, but now they look like they belong together.

Also, I love that all of the colors of the main pieces are neutral so that I can easily add color for the different seasons!

I’m so pleased with how this room has turned out!
We went from mismatched furniture to a beautiful, cohesive look!

I hope these living room table makeover ideas inspired you to see the potential in your own furniture!
With a little creativity—and maybe a bit of paint or stain—you can transform tired, outdated pieces into something beautiful and unique.
Whether you’re working with family hand-me-downs or budget-friendly finds, don’t be afraid to give them new life.
