There’s something so satisfying about turning simple, budget-friendly supplies into a gorgeous decor piece, and this DIY project proves that a bit of creativity can go a long way.
Look how I took cute shamrocks from Dollar Tree, tweaked them, and attached them to a unique ribbon I bought on sale at Hobby Lobby!
This garland is so easy to make and turned out so cute!

Gather Materials

Gather the following materials to complete this project:
- Shamrocks- Dollar Tree- 8 per pack
- 2 sheets of printed cardstock that coordinate
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Mod Podge OR glue
- Paintbrush
- Nail file
- Twine Leaf Ribbon- Hobby Lobby -goes on sale every other week; buy when it’s 40% off
- Mini clothespins- Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree
- Command Light Clips
Steps to Make a Shamrock Garland
The Dollar Tree shamrocks are very cute and would look fine on their own, but I want to dress mine up a bit and make them look a little more fancy!
I will cover mine with cardstock, but you don’t have to!
Make Paper Shamrocks

- Lay the cardstock on the table printed side up.
- Lay the shamrock on the paper with its printed side down.
- Using a pencil, outline the shamrock.
- Cut out the shamrock.
- Make four shamrocks out of each piece of cardstock.
Adhere Shamrocks

- Paint a layer of Mod Podge on the back of the Dollar Tree shamrock.
- Press the paper shamrock into the Mod Podge.
- Continue until all the shamrocks are covered, and let them dry.
- Ensure the edges are adhered; if not, add more Mod Podge to secure them.
Remove Rough Edges

- Look at the back of your shamrock, and you’ll notice that some of the edges of the paper are hanging over.
- Rub a nail file over the edge to remove the excess paper.
Steps to Hang a Shamrock Garland

- Attach Command hooks under each end of your mantel.
- Tie one end of the twine leaf ribbon to one Command hook.
- Pull the twine across to the other side and determine the length of your garland.
- Cut and tie to the other Command hook.
- Attach the shamrocks to the garland with the clothespins.

Who knew pinning a shamrock to a piece of twine with a mini clothespin would be fabulous?

The shamrocks were cute, to begin with, but I adore this pretty paper!

And what about that twine? It’s so special. I love how the leaves are tucked in it.

It’s the perfect amount of green to celebrate this festive holiday!
To finish decorating the mantel, we added one of our latest thrifted finds, this large metal artwork!

We hung a DIY moss shamrock on it and placed faux ferns, small white jars—and DIY topiaries on each end.
In Conclusion
I hope this simple Dollar Tree Shamrock Garland DIY has inspired you to get creative with affordable supplies and make your own festive decorations!
It’s incredible how a few budget-friendly items can be transformed into something so charming and fun.
So gather your materials, let your creativity shine, and enjoy the process of making something beautiful—on a budget!

These pops of green are all so pretty, Donna. I love the way this garland came together. It’s such a fun and festive way to celebrate St. Patricks Day. Plus, garlands like these are so super easy to store which is nice when you have a big open floor plan but limited closet and storage space like we do. Hugs, CoCo
Thanks CoCo! Storage is a big deal here in Florida since we don’t have basements and the attics are so hot! Small seasonal items like garlands are perfect for this! Thanks again!
Love it, Donna! The twine itself is so pretty and ties in perfectly with the shamrocks!
Thanks Rachel! I thought that was the cutest twine and was happy to find a fun way to use it! Have a great day!
Thanks for sharing with us, I’ll be featuring you this week when the next To Grandma’s house we go link party starts!
So glad you liked the post! It’s always an honor to be featured at your party! Thanks so much and we’ll see you there!
I love the twine ribbon Donna, and the shamrocks with fancy pants paper just make them so much more, well, more! You are so clever using Dollar Tree products while creating one of a kind decorations for your home. ROCK STAR! I’ve been down for a few weeks, so I didn’t realize the holiday was quickly approaching. You are always so organized and on top of the holidays my friend.
I sure hope you’re feeling better! I can’t believe March is here and St Patrick’s Day is just a couple of weeks away! Time sure flies when you’re having fun! I adore that twine ribbon too! Thanks for stopping by!
