Well, I’ve had these adorable bunny dish towels for several years.
They are so cute but don’t function well as towels because they are not absorbent.
Plus, I thought the bunny was too cute to mess up!
So, I would hang them on my oven and tell my family not to touch them, lol!!!
So silly, isn’t it??
The thought finally occurred to me, that I should make a pillow out of them!
You know, since I refused to let anyone treat them like dish towels!!!
So, today’s the day, I am going to attempt to make a no-sew pillow!
Come along and see what happens!
Gather
Gather or purchase the following items to do this project:
- two dish towels
- iron and ironing board
- a pillow insert-mine is 18 X 18
- measuring tape
- rotory cutter and/or scissors
- cutting mat
- lip edge ruler
- hot glue gun
prep
Iron the towels to remove the wrinkles and heavy creases.
steps to make a no-sew dish towel pillow
measure
Measure your towels. Mine was 18 inches wide and 24 inches long.
I searched my house and found a pillow that was 18 X 18. Next, I took the insert out of the pillow to use for the project.
I measured up 18 inches from the bottom of the towel and made four marks using a disappearing ink pen.
Next, I placed the ruler on top of the towel and made 1-inch marks across the top edge.
Then, I drew a line across the 18-inch marks and added 1-inch dots to it.
cut
Since the towel is longer than I need, I had to decide what to do with the excess fabric.
I decided to try cutting strips and tying them together. I knew the fabric would fray but I like the look of that.
However, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, so I did not cut all the way down to the 18-inch line.
You can see, in the picture above, I stopped short of the line, leaving enough fabric in case I changed my mind. If you don’t have a rotary cutter, just use scissors!
glue
Plugin your hot glue gun.
Put the printed sides of the fabric together.
The towel with the bunny is a bit smaller than the towel with the footprints. That’s no problem, just make sure they are centered.
Apply hot glue to the bottom edge and press the towels together. Be very careful and do not touch the hot glue, it can cause blisters!
Glue the two sides together.
insert pillow
When the glue is dry, turn the pillow inside out.
This picture looks like I didn’t press the creases out of that towel!! Oh well, maybe I should have skipped that step lol!!
Insert the pillow into your new pillowcase!
tie top closed
At this point, I tied several of the pieces together to see if I would like the messy look it gave the pillow!
I loved how it looked but it was too loose since I had not cut down to the 18-inch line.
So, I went back and cut to the line with a pair of scissors.
To finish the pillow, I tied each one-inch stip to the one across from it and made a knot.
my easy no sew dish towel pillow
Here is the finished product! Isn’t it cute!!
Oh and guess what, I found the pillow cover behind it on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $6.24!!! What a bargain, can you believe that gorgeous pillow was so inexpensive??? I loved it so much, I bought another one!
Here are the three new pillow covers styled on my couch with an old bunny pillow I’ve had for years!!
Let’s not forget that the pillow I made is reversible!! Here it is styled with the older bunny pillow!
This no-sew dish towel pillow was so easy to make!! Will you give it a try? Let me know in the comments below!
And remember, don’t ever buy non-absorbent towels for your kitchen!
Unless you plan to make a super cute pillow out of them!!

These pillows are so cute, Donna, I love them! My Mom just gave me the cutest pink bunny towels and I’m too afraid to hang them from the oven as well because I don’t want them to get messed up or have spaghetti sauce splattered on them 😂 This is such a great solution and your step by step makes it super easy too. Thanks so much for this idea! Loving and pinning, CoCo

I am enjoying the cute bunny much more as a pillow than I did as a towel! Thanks for your sweet words! Have a wonderful week, Donna

Donna, this project is too stinking cute! I love anything that is a “no sew”. If I can’t use the fusing web, it’s hot glue all the way or fabric glue. I love how your bunny pillow turned out.
Donna Allen says
Thanks, Tammy! I wasn’t sure if cutting and tying the strips would work, but I love how it turned out! Take care, Donna

I get that whole “please don’t touch the towels” thing. Making them into pillows, especially no sew ones was a perfect solution.
Thanks for sharing at the FWF link party 🙂
Hugs,
Rachelle

Hey Rachelle! Glad to hear there are others that understand my pretty towel issues, lol!! Have a fabulous week! Donna

I may have laughed out loud when you said you had towels you told your family not to use. I have a few of those, my husband thinks it is ridiculous, but he appeases me. I will have to tell him I am not the only one who says this, I just won’t share the part where you made a pillow of yours! I really like the fringed top, thank you for sharing with us! Love it.

So happy to hear I’m not the only one who’s done that, lol!! It’s gotten much more used as a pillow than it did as a towel!! Happy Day!
