I made one to decorate our mantel for Valentine’s Day!
It beautifully complements the heart garland I bought at Target several years ago!
Bonus that it’s neutral, and I’ll be able to use it for other holidays!
Now let me show you how easy this garland was to make!!
Tips to Make this DIY Pom Pom Garland the easy way
Use a pre-made wood bead garland
To make this project super easy, I used a pre-made wood bead garland.
I purchased mine from Dollar Tree back in the Fall (whenever I see them, I buy several)!
I have not seen them in the stores lately, but you can order them from Amazon (however, it will cost more than $1.25).
If you don’t want to purchase one you can make your own.
Check out this post on how to make a wood bead garland!
Use pom pom makers
I bought a set of pom pom makers and I am so glad I did!
They are fabulous, and I love that I can make four different sizes!
It takes all the guesswork out of making pom poms.
However, there are many ways to make pom poms without this product.
So, if you don’t think you’d use them more than once, google how to make them instead!
Steps to make a DIY Pom Pom Garland
Gather supplies
Gather or purchase the following supplies to complete the project:
- Yarn- I used two types by Yarn Bee- Teddy Bear (purchased last year and have not seen it in stores this year) and Etheral Eyelash
- Pom pom makers- I used two sizes
- Wood bead garland- Dollar Tree
- Scissors
Determine how many pom poms you need
I used clips to mark the garland and figure out how many pom poms I needed to make.
I decided to put twelve beads between each pom pom.
Which left spaces for nine pom poms.
Make Pom Poms
Follow the instructions on the pom pom maker set.
I used the teal pom pom maker for the thicker yarn and the yellow one for the thinner yarn.
The Teddy Bear yarn makes a big mess after you cut it!
It’s important to tie the yarn tightly around your pom pom, so pieces can’t be pulled out!
Attach Pom Poms
I alternated the large and small pom poms on the garland.
Tie the pom pom to the garland and double-knot it.
Cut the strings the same length as the yarn on the pom pom so it will blend in.
Hang your garland
I don’t know what it is about pom poms, but I think they’re so cute!
I’m loving this sweet garland
It added the perfect touch to our Valentine’s Day mantel!

I love the pom pom garland Donna! How creative, I also like the way the white fluffy pom poms remind me of large fluffy snowballs! You always come up with really unique ideas, and I do love pom poms, I have just never made them.

Thank you Cara! You’re right, the larger ones do look like snowballs and I will be able to use it next year for Christmas too!! You should make some, they’re so fun! Have a great day!

You seriously make the best garlands, Donna! I love how this combines two different textures yet is something that you can use throughout the year because of it’s neutral color. It’s fabulous layered with your heart garland too! Hugs, CoCo

Great idea to start with prestrung beads. Makes the project much easier and faster to make. Those pom pom makers are some of my favorite purchases. Thanks for sharing and this post will be a feature this week. #HomeMattersParty
