Isn’t this the sweetest little garland?
Let’s get started!
steps to Make a DIY Paper Heart & Ribbon Garland
Gather

Gather or purchase the following items to complete this project:
- 2 solid color 12×12 pieces of cardstock
- 1 printed 12×12 piece of cardstock
- Cricut cutting machine OR a heart-shaped punch OR a heart template, pencil, and scissors
- Ribbon
- Gluestick
Tip for choosing paper- pick out a patterned piece of paper you like! Then, choose two colors from the pattern for your solid pieces of paper!
cut hearts
The first step in this project is to cut out some hearts!

I cut out my hearts using a Cricut cutting machine.
If you don’t have a Cricut, consider purchasing a heart-shaped punch.

If you don’t want to buy a punch, you can use a heart-shaped template, draw around it, and cut it out with scissors.
I used 38 hearts on my garland. Ten cream, eight brown, and twenty multi-colored hearts.
cut ribbon

Cut a ribbon to the length you want your garland to be.
My garland is seven feet long.
Adhere the hearts

Cover the inside of a heart with the glue stick.
Place the heart underneath the ribbon.
Cover another heart with glue.

Put the second heart on top of the first heart and press together.
Continue gluing hearts on the ribbon until you come to the end.

I left one heart’s width between each heart that I glued onto the ribbon.

Catching up on all your beautiful Valentine’s inspiration, Donna! I love everything you’ve created so far and this garland is no exception. I can’t believe you can use it in so many different places too. I’ve thought about getting a Cricut a hundred and it’s fun to see you enjoying yours so much. Hope your Valentine’s week is filled with all good things, CoCo
Thanks, CoCo, I will say the Cricut makes cutting things out so much easier and faster! However, I still have a lot to learn about that machine! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours! Donna
I love this pretty garland! It’s such a simple decor piece but it makes a big impact, especially within the table setting. I love the paper that you chose too..not too bright! Thanks for sharing!!
I love the soft muted colors. Most people would not choose brown for Valentine’s Day but I say it looks like chocolate, lol! Hope your Valentine’s Day is special! Thanks so much, Donna
What a pretty garland, Donna! I love the pretty papers you chose!
Thanks, Kim! I thought the colors were interesting and different than you usually see for Valentine’s Day! Blessings, Donna
