Steps to make a Halloween Wood bead garland
Gather
Gather the following items to complete this project:
- wood beads- 10 small beads and 10 medium beads
- floral wire
- bed risers
- white Chalk paint-Waverly White
- black chalk paint -Waverly Ink
- paintbrush
- jute twine
- white yarn
- scissors
- index cards
- ruler
- scotch tape
- black and white ribbon
- black sticker letters or a Sharpie marker
Paint beads
Paint half of your beads white and the other black!
Here’s my favorite way to paint beads!
I use old bed risers and floral wire.
String the beads on the wire and then attach the ends to the bed risers.
This makes painting the round beads a breeze!
Let them dry!
String beads
Grab your jute twine and the scotch tape.
Wrap a piece of scotch tape around the end of the jute twine.
String the beads on the jute, alternating black and white ones.
make tassels
Now we are going to make two tassels!
I found this chenille yarn at Dollar Tree, it’s so soft!
To make the tassels grab your yarn, a few index cards, scissors, and a ruler.
Cut two twelve-inch pieces of yarn and set them aside.
Wrap the yarn around the index cards twelve times.
Take the twelve-inch piece of yarn and slide it under the wrapped pieces.
Tie the piece of yarn in a knot.
Slide your scissors under the wrapped yarn and cut across the bottom.
Take the second piece of twelve-inch yarn and knot it close to the top to secure the tassel.
Use your scissors to cut the excess length off the bottom of the tassel.
Repeat the steps to make your second tassel.
attach tassels
Now it’s time to attach the tassels to the wood bead garland.
Slide your beads close to the taped end of the garland.
Tie the tassel to the jute.
Push the taped end of the jute twine inside the bead, and repeat the steps to secure the other tassel.
Embellish
At this point, we have a cute, black-and-white wood bead garland.
You can stop here if you like, but I will embellish mine and dress it up for Halloween!
I added two polka dot bows to each end.
The tassels reminded me of ghosts, so I added some eyes to give them a bit of personality.
I took an old sheet of black sticker letters and found two “periods” for the eyes!
