Spring will officially be here soon! There’s no better way to welcome the season than with pretty Spring decor on your door! Why not bring nature’s beauty into your home by crafting a whimsical moss mushroom wreath nestled into a second-hand basket?

If you’re new here, I belong to a group of talented bloggers who love elevated crafting!
Each month, we are challenged to create something from an assigned medium or theme.
For March, our theme is Spring/Easter door decor!
After you see how I made my wreath, click on the links at the bottom of this post to see what my friends have made!
Last Spring, I made the most adorable moss mushrooms to decorate our home and decided to use them as the focal point of our wreath for the front door.
Let me show you how I incorporated them into a unique Spring wreath!
Steps to Make a DIY Mushroom Wreath
Gather
Gather the following items to complete this project:
- Basket- Thrift store find
- Moss mushrooms- Purchase mushrooms or see the DIY for moss mushrooms here
- Preserved sheet moss– Michael’s
- Styrofoam- rectangle block
- Floral pins– Michael’s
- Floral picks– Michael’s
- Wire cutters
- Fern stems- Hobby Lobby
- Green Queen Anne’s Lace– Michael’s
- White Billy Ball Stems– Michael’s
- Bird nest pick– Michael’s
Prepare The basket
I needed a basket wide enough to hold my moss mushrooms, so I started looking in thrift stores, and after a few weeks, I found the perfect one!
Isn’t it cute!
I cleaned it up and cut a rectangular styrofoam to fit inside.
Insert the styrofoam, cover it with sheet moss, and secure it with floral pins.
Place the Mushrooms
Remove the wire from a floral pick and push it into the bottom of the DIY mushroom.
Push the mushroom into the styrofoam base.
Repeat with the second mushroom.
Add Ferns
Use wire cutters to cut the fern stems into two pieces.
Insert the longer stem on the left side in an upward direction.
Insert the shorter stem in a downward direction, moving to the right.
Arrange florals
Cut the floral stem into three pieces: short, medium, and long.
Place the long and medium stems to the left of the mushrooms and the short stem in front of the mushrooms.
Cut the pods varying the length of the stems, and add them to the basket.
Display a Bird nest
Finish the basket by adding a bird’s nest.
Push the pick into the styrofoam base to secure it.
Display Your DIY Mushroom Wreath
I made my mushroom wreath for the front door, but it’s so pretty that I’m tempted to keep it inside!
Here it is hanging on my china cabinet in the dining room.
But, in the end, it went to the front door!
Now, we need to clean the porch and the windows and decorate that area before out-of-town guests arrive for Spring break!
We look forward to welcoming them with our unique moss mushroom wreath!

Donna – The faux florals you selected for your basket are gorgeous! Using ferns and moss is one of my favorite combinations. Here in NY, we don’t get an actual spring until May – but we do so moss and some daffodils starting to emerge from the ground. Wishing you a lovely weekend. Pinned.
Donna Allen says
Thank you, Anna! I think ferns and moss make a beautiful combination as well! It’s always so exciting to see those first flowers spring up from the ground! I hope you have a wonderful Spring!
