Each year, we challenge ourselves (and you) to organize our entire home!
I know, it’s a huge goal!
However, we’ve made it easy by breaking the tasks into manageable chunks or zones!
Each season of the year we tackle one of the zones!
ORGANIZE BY THE SEASON
Here are the zones of our home:
- Outdoor Zone (Spring): All outdoor spaces of our home: garage (shed), porch (patio, deck), attic (unfinished basement), cars (camper, boat), and yard.
- Personal Living Zone (Summer): These rooms are personal to each individual who lives in our home: master bedroom, additional bedrooms, closets (bedroom, linen, cleaning), master bathroom, and additional bathrooms.
- Entertaining Zone (Fall): The main rooms a guest would frequent when coming to our home: entryway, living room, dining room, family/playroom, and guest bedroom and bathroom.
- Working Zone (Winter): We regularly work in the office, kitchen, and laundry rooms. The kitchen is a big job, so we separate it from the pantry. We do the same in my office by organizing the paper clutter and craft supplies on different days.
Now that you know how our seasonal challenges work, let’s discuss what’s happening this season!
THE Spring HOME ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE
Here are the goals we are setting for ourselves this season!
You can set the same goals or choose your own!
ORGANIZATION and Spring cleaning
In the Spring, organization, and cleaning go hand in hand!
Organize and clean the potting bench
Dealing with pollen in Florida during the Spring is daunting!
Two weeks without cleaning the potting bench and this is what it looks like!
Can you believe it’s on a covered screened-in patio?
I also need to organize inside the cabinets!
Organize garage
We do a decent job keeping indoor spaces organized, but the garage is a different story!
Every Spring we have to spruce up this area!
Clean and organize car
We love going to the beach but come home with sunscreen on the seats and sand everywhere!
We’ll clean the car and organize it for road trips this summer!
Clean up the yard
We neglected our yard all Winter and it needs some sprucing up!
There’s grass growing into the flower beds and weeds need to be pulled!
Time to trim trees and bushes and put down fresh mulch!
DIY HOME IMPROVEMENT
Each season, we try to do at least one home improvement project to turn our builder-grade home into a house we love!
This season, we have several projects we want to tackle.
Paint front door
My DIY pinecone wreath scratched up the front door so we need to paint it!
Seal pavers
The recommendation for sealing pavers is every two to three years, and it’s time for us to tackle this job!
Paint patio furniture
Our outdoor wicker furniture looks gray instead of white, we are overdue for painting it!
The chains are rusty and look bad, so we need to address that!
Recover patio cushions and pillows
Look how faded the material is on the tops of our cushions!
They need to be recovered but I can barely sew, so it’s a huge undertaking for me!
I did it once, so I know I can do it!
However, I keep putting it off!
DID WE MEET OUR GOALS FOR THE PAST CHALLENGE?
Sometimes unfortunate things happen to prevent you from meeting your goals!
I’ve been dealing with some health issues which have slowed me down.
It’s very frustrating but I have learned, in my old age that taking care of my health is more important than getting stuff done around the house.
Sometimes you have to let things go!
With that in mind, here’s how we did!
ORGANIZATION GOALS WE MET
Here’s a list of the home organization goals we accomplished during Winter!
- Organize a Drop Zone in the Entryway
- How to Organize Pots, Pans, and Lids
- Helpful Under Kitchen Sink Organization Ideas
- Organize Your Junk Drawer Once and For All
Goals we did not meet
- Late on Craft Room Organization- Better late than never, you can see our best craft room organization ideas here!
- Paper Clutter and Digital Organization- I organized all of the papers we have in files but did not do a post about it. If you need help check out our post, How to Get Rid of Paper Clutter. I have not succeeded in tackling digital clutter so I have no business instructing anyone in this area! Maybe I’ll get it figured out sometime this year! If you have any great suggestions, let me know!
DIY HOME IMPROVEMENT Goal
We partially met the home improvement goal we set for the kitchen!
You can see how we installed hardware on our kitchen cabinets!
We’re running late installing pendant lights because I sent back the first ones I ordered and it took me a while to decide on new ones.
When the pendant lights finally arrived, we hung them over the kitchen counter!
They are so gorgeous and you can see them here!
Unfortunately, we did not meet the goal of adding trim and painting our kitchen island.
This will go back on the list for next year!

WHAT WILL YOU ORGANIZE AND IMPROVE?
Now, you need to decide what space(s) to organize!
To follow our plan, print the sheet pictured above!
Print the empty sheet below if you want to organize different spaces from us!
If the thought of organizing an entire room is overwhelming, that’s okay!
Choose one item in a room to organize, like the kitchen cabinets!
If it’s too much, choose to organize one kitchen drawer!
Set yourself up to win!
Once you’ve successfully organized one space, you’ll have the confidence to do something bigger the next time!
WHEN WILL YOU DO THE WORK?
If you want to meet your goal, look at your calendar and set aside time to do the work!
This printable will help you decide what to work on each week!
COMMIT TO THE CHALLENGE
Are you ready to commit to the challenge?
If so, get a binder, set your goals, and start the Spring Home Organization Challenge!

Cindy McTigue says
You always share great organizational tips. In NJ, I’m anxiously waiting for our garden center to put out Violas.
April and May the pollen is horrible in NJ.
Pinned!
Donna Allen says
Thank you Cindy! I appreciate that so much! I love Spring but don’t like battling the pollen, but it’s worth all the great weather, lol!!
Anna Price says
Holy moley! That’s a lot of pollen. I always love your organizing posts and that you break things into “chunks”. It always feels like a big win if I can get one room done. Thanks for all the tips and inspiration. Have a fabulous week!
Donna Allen says
Isn’t the pollen factor crazy!! I thought it was bad in Kentucky, but it’s nothing compared to down here! Glad you enjoyed the post and good luck with any Spring cleaning and organizing you need to do!
Cara says
Thank you for sharing Donna, I had no idea I was to seal the pavers outside! Good to know. You are always so organized, and I admire your knack for it. I have some things organized, and then others? Well, it is kind of embarrassing. Maybe one of these days I will get my entire home and garage on board.
Donna Allen says
I’m bummed we have to seal the pavers, I can think of lots of ways I would rather spend that money, lol!! You’ll get your home organized some day! Slow and steady wins the race! It has taken me years to get my home this organized!!
