If you love the relaxed charm of coastal style, why not bring it to your dining table? Today I’m sharing a simple yet beautiful coastal table decor idea that’s perfect for any occasion—from casual summer meals to dinner parties with friends.
I originally styled this table for a casual Father’s Day dinner, but the relaxed coastal vibe is perfect for any summertime gathering or beach-themed celebration.

With a few key pieces, you can create a table setting that feels fresh and inviting all year round.
Simple Ideas for Coastal Table Decor
Drape a fishing net

Our first simple and budget-friendly coastal decor idea doesn’t get any easier than this!
Purchase a couple of fishing nets from Dollar Tree for $1.25 apiece.
I draped one over the table and another across our mirror!
It’s so cute and adds instant coastal vibes!
Create Candles for a Centerpiece

When I think of typical coastal colors, my mind pictures blues, whites, and sandy neutrals!
So, when I spotted blue napkins with shells at HomeGoods, I grabbed them to use on my coastal tablescape.
Rather than using them traditionally, I transferred the shell images onto plain white candles to create a one-of-a-kind centerpiece.
This is such a fun DIY!
See how easy it is to decorate candles with napkins here!
Incorporate natural elements

Another easy and inexpensive way to add a coastal feel to your table is to incorporate natural elements, such as shells, sand, and sea glass.
When we go to the beach, we collect shells and showcase them in inexpensive glass vases.
Dollar Tree has similar vases for only $1.25, or you can use drinking glasses or upcycle jars!
If you don’t have a collection of shells, you can purchase them at Walmart or order from Amazon!
Bring in Wood Accents

This wooden chain decor reminds me of links on an anchor.
I just wish it were longer!
If you don’t have one, you could use pieces of driftwood or make a DIY wood bead garland to display around the candles.
Tips to Create a Coastal Place Setting
Begin with a placemat

I thought a tablecloth would take away from the fishing net hanging on the table, so I decided to use placemats instead.
I love the color and texture these natural, round woven placemats provide.
You could incorporate other natural textures, such as jute, linen, or wicker.
Layer dishes

I adore the scalloped edging on the white dinner plates and thought they would pair perfectly with the amazing seashell plates I found while thrifting last year!
I have been patiently waiting for a chance to use them!
Set out eating utensils

Continuing with the theme, I pulled out silverware with a gold scalloped edge.
Choose glassware

I chose simple glassware that would not compete with the glass vases filled with shells.
DIY a Napkin Ring

Here’s another super-easy DIY!
Take a plain napkin holder, mine are covered in twine, and add a shell to the top!
If you don’t have plain napkin holders, cut a toilet paper roll and glue twine around it!
Add Coastal Decor touches to the Dining Area

Don’t stop with the table, add a few coastal items around the room to continue the festive theme!
Hang a Coastal-inspired Wreath

I made this cute wreath out of jute rope, and it reminds me of a life buoy!
It is fabulous paired with the fishing net.
Here’s the post showing how to make a DIY rope wreath.
Fill a wooden bowl with shells

Here’s another effortless way to add a coastal touch to a room!
Fill a wooden bowl with seashells!
Incorporate Lanterns

Use lanterns to create a cozy ambiance and enhance the coastal theme.
I filled this one with a tall candle and placed sand and shells around it.

If you don’t have a lantern, you can create one!
I made this coastal-inspired lantern from a pickle jar and jute twine, then added sand, shells, and a candle!
Display Coral

My final idea to capture the essence of the coast is to display a coral statue!
I purchased this inexpensive one at HomeGoods a couple of years ago.
In Conclusion
I hope these coastal table decor ideas inspire you to create a beautiful and inviting space for your next gathering—or even just a special weeknight dinner.
It doesn’t take much to add a relaxed, beachy vibe to your table—just a few simple elements and a touch of creativity.
If you give it a try, I’d love to hear how it turns out!
