Let me show you how I created a boo-tiful kitchen with inexpensive Halloween decor!
How to get started decorating for Halloween
The first step to decorating any area of your home is to decide on a style or color scheme.
Find an inspirational piece in your home and work from there!
I thought it would be fun to do a black-and-white Halloween kitchen.
My inspiration…
these black and white striped salad plates.
inexpensive Halloween decor in my kitchen
I must confess, I don’t own a lot of black and white, or Halloween decor.
So, I had to get creative.
Here are my top tips for decorating on a budget.
- Use Halloween items you already own. It’s time to pull those plastic bins or boxes out of storage and see what you’ve got!
- Shop your house. Decide on a color scheme and walk around your house pulling out items that could work. I collected black and white items from every room in my home.
- Repurpose old decor items. If you have items you can use, but don’t match your color scheme, paint them!
- Make new decor that looks expensive, but isn’t. My favorite thing to do is dupe high-end looks with items from stores like Dollar Tree and Walmart.
Eat-in Kitchen
The table
Place setting
I put a black dinner plate beneath the black and white striped salad plates!
Next, I pulled out my everyday silverware and plain white cloth napkins.
I dressed up my place setting with these cute bats I made with my Cricut cutting machine.
Last, I added simple wine glasses to complete the place setting.
Centerpiece
For the centerpiece, I used a white cake plate stacked with pumpkins. I wrapped 1/2 of a black boa around the cake stand. I purchased the boas last year to use around my outdoor pumpkins.
Originally, the pumpkins were an off-white color with brown stems, so I decided to paint them white and added black sticker letters to spell “BOO” on the top pumpkin
BEFORE
AFTER
The shelf
Here is my not-so-spooky shelf, I love how it turned out!
I grabbed the black candlesticks and candles from my oldest son’s bedroom. (If you’re wondering, it’s a Haunted Mansion-inspired bedroom)!
The right side
The skull is the only black-and-white item I had, so I knew I would have to do some DIYs.
The clock came from my office!
The center
I used the leftover half of my black feather boa and wrapped it around a topiary in a black and white vase.
Easiest DIY ever!!
BEFORE
AFTER
This is so simple but looks festive and beautiful!
The left side
The cat candleholder was an old piece of Halloween decor I had since the boys were little.
The bright colors didn’t match my theme so, I got the black and white paint out and started getting busy!
BEFORE
AFTER
The simple change updated the look of the candleholder!
The mirror
I made the bats with my Cricut cutting machine and taped them to the mirror!
I got this idea from Pinterest, the flying bats are popular!
PIE SHELF
I continued the black-and-white theme on the shelves between my kitchen and the eat-in area!
Top row
I took this basket from my office and put buffalo check napkins inside.
The calendar also came from my office and I changed the date to October 31st!
I made the adorable Rae Dunn dupe candle. Click here for the tutorial.
Middle row
I grabbed a white pitcher and wrapped this adorable wood bead garland around it.
To see how I made the garland, click here!
Next, I put two cute white containers on either side of the pitcher.
Bottom row
I placed this picture that Griffin drew in the fourth grade on the shelf.
Then, I added black and white spherical fillers to the wooden bowl.
I spray-painted the black ones.
BEFORE
AFTER
Another super simple and inexpensive DIY!
kitchen counters
I don’t want to clutter my kitchen counters, but I added a few decorations here and there!
kitchen island
On the kitchen island, I put a tall vase with greenery that I spray-painted black.
Next, I took three black books from my bookshelves in the living room and stacked them up.
I filled this cute Rae Dunn black bucket with candy and placed it on the books.
Then, I added another Rae Dunn dupe candle that I made and a small cookie jar that I painted and waxed.
BEFORE
AFTER
White chalk paint and black wax completely changed the look of this little jar!
Long counter
Utensil holder
I decided to give my utensil holder a little makeover!
It was so easy, I just took a buffalo check napkin and wrapped it around the canister.
Then I secured it with a white wired ribbon tied in a bow!
Stove
I wanted to add some interest behind the stove.
So, I took a little trip to Dollar Tree and bought some items I could turn into high-end-looking decor!
I found the white pumpkin and the two frames from Dollar Tree for $1 apiece.
BEFORE
AFTER
Then, I did a little makeover on the frames so they would match!
I added black cardstock and white pumpkins, which I cut out with my Cricut.
Then I added a black and white bow!
Aren’t they the cutest little pictures you’ve ever seen? I love how they coordinate perfectly with the white stenciled pumpkin sign!
Tray
I found this black tray in my bathroom and used it to hold salt and pepper (which I’m running low on), vinegar, and olive oil.
I also made the tiny little twine pumpkin! To see how I did it click here!
Short counter
On the short counter, I made a cute little coffee bar.
The items on the tiered tray were traditional Fall colors and I painted them black and white.

What a transformation!
I had a blast painting those little pumpkins and jars!
Isn’t it amazing what a little ribbon and napkins can do to elevate your decor?
