So, I thought I would use my leftover yarn and try my hand at making Christmas trees!
And guess what…
I love them just as much as the pumpkins!
This project is such an affordable way to make high-end-looking tabletop trees!
Aren’t they great!
Here are the trees I made with my leftover yarn!
I love how they turned out, so I decided to make a few more for the other side of my counter.
When I went to the store to buy more yarn, I made a wonderful discovery…
Faux fur yarn!
How fun is that?
I’m not a knitter so I never look at yarn and had no idea there was such as thing as faux fur yarn!!
Anyway, let me show you how I made them!
Gather
Gather the following materials to make this project:
- White poster board
- Clips
- Yarn
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Scissors
Make the cone
This DIY is so affordable because I used poster board to make the cones!
Each cone cost less than $1.00!! Woo Hoo!!
Let’s get this DIY started!
Lay the poster board on a flat surface.
Pick up one of the corners and start to roll it toward the opposite corner.
When it’s rolled halfway, put clips on the bottom to help hold it.
Run a strip of hot glue across the poster board and continue to roll it, being very careful not to touch the glue and burn yourself!
Glue along the edge of the posterboard and adhere. Let the glue dry.
Remove the clips and use scissors to cut the corners off.
Continue to cut until the cone is the height you want, and it sits without wobbling!
Getting the cone even on the bottom is the hardest part of this project!
So just cut small bits at a time and you’ll be fine!!
Now it’s time to embellish your cone Christmas tree!
cover the cone with yarn
Choose your yarn. I’m using chunky twisted yarn, which I bought from Michael’s, and chunky chenille yarn, which I bought from Walmart!
Put hot glue around the bottom edge of the cone. Attach the yarn, being careful not to touch the glue!
It is very hot and can cause blisters!
Continue to wrap the yarn around the cone gluing every other row.
Tada!! Here’s the finished product!
It’s so cute, can you blame me for wanting to make more??
FAUX FUR SURPRISE
When I opened the faux fur, I discovered it was looped.
At first, I thought I would have to return it, but then I decided to wrap it around the cone, just to see what it would look like!
Wow! To my surprise, it looked amazing! The loops added so much texture, like branches sticking out!
I’m so happy about it!
Don’t you think it looks fabulous!
How to Style your Cone Christmas Trees
There are so many ways you can style your cone Christmas trees.
Here are several ways I tried them out!
on the kitchen counter
in a tray or basket
on a cutting board
