Hello friends! I love to add seasonal decorating touches to my home and Valentine’s Day is no exception! I hope this post inspires you to incorporate some of my decorating ideas for Valentine’s day into your home this year.
I know most people don’t decorate for this holiday, but I think it’s a great time to celebrate those we love. It also adds some much-needed sparkle after taking down all the Christmas decorations!

Choose a focal point
In “our old Kentucky home” I always decorated the mantel for Valentine’s day. Unfortunately, I don’t have a fireplace anymore, so I chose to decorate the table and mirror in my foyer instead. I hung my heart garland on the mirror and then decided to add some beads and a Christmas garland around it. Then, I took the angel candlesticks off of the dining room table and put them on the foyer table. I had one garland left so I placed it around the candles.
Next, I tucked the “X” and “O” pillows and a flower arrangement on the shelf below.
DISPLAY ITEMS FROM YOUR WEDDING
I think Valentine’s is a great time to celebrate those we love and I like to pull out my wedding album and put it on the coffee table. Brings back so many great memories!
I also bring out some of my framed pictures that I no longer display regularly! Let’s face it, we spent a lot of money on our wedding photos and I think it’s fun to pull them out and show them off for a few weeks of the year.
Our anniversary is in November and I’m too busy getting ready for the holidays to bring out wedding pictures then. So, when better than Valentine’s day? If you’re not married then showcase pictures of the important people in your life that you love!
I also pulled out the unity candle that we lit during our ceremony and the pillow that our ring bearer carried down the aisle. I don’t think people do that anymore, do they?
Use Christmas items to decorate for Valentine’s Day
Our home always looks so bare after the Christmas décor comes down, it’s kind of depressing. This year, because of the pandemic, we are having a very late Christmas celebration with my family. It made me sad to think of opening presents that didn’t come from under the tree. So, I decided to do something I’d never done before…I kept out some Christmas décor and modified it for Valentine’s Day. I was shocked at how much I had that I could use.
Use items That have a winter theme
Since we’re still in the winter season, I decided to keep out items that invoked a winter feel and that were neutral or pink in color.
When I bought the pompom wreath several years ago, it never occurred to me that I could use it for Valentine’s day as well. Since the colors were perfect, I kept it up and added the angel wings attached to a gold heart.
These evergreen topiaries were on either side of the TV, so I moved them both to the left side and elevated one of them on top of two books. I covered the books with wrapping paper and stamped the word “love” on the pink book.
During Christmas, I used a cake plate to hold “snowballs” under a glass cloche. It was on my coffee table but I moved it to the right side of the TV and added a candlestick holder and a white container.
To keep my Valentine’s decorations looking cohesive, I added a faux fur garland around the TV. Then I draped white beads on the front of the console, to match the foyer.
Redecorate a small tree
You might not have thought of this, but it’s one of my easiest decorating ideas for Valentine’s day! Have you ever thought of leaving up your Christmas tree and decorating it for a different holiday? At the last salon I worked in, my friend Andrea decided to keep a small tree up year-round and she decorated it for each season/holiday. It was so fun to see what she would come up with and it inspired me to keep this tree up through Valentine’s Day!
I decide to go very minimal with decorations on the tree and added white beads, pink and white beaded flowers, pink glitter roses, and gold hearts.
DIY Decorating ideas for valentine’s day
I love to do simple DIY projects to update new or used decor to match my theme. For this season, I picked up this wood sign at the Target dollar spot.
One coat of white chalk paint was all I needed to dress it up a bit! I decided to use it next to a picture of Rich and I but it would also look great mounted on a wreath!
Covering books is a fun and easy way to elevate decor items. I wanted to use the evergreen topiaries on the same side of the TV but one needed to be higher than the other. So, I grabbed a couple of books and some wrapping paper, and magically everything matched! To continue the “love” theme, I grabbed my stamps and ink and applied the word to the pink book!
I hope my decorating ideas for Valentine’s Day inspire you to celebrate those you love and maybe start this tradition in your home! Happy decorating!
