I also take that approach with my summer decor.
I don’t change things dramatically.
Instead, I make simple changes to help bring the feeling of summer from the outdoors in!
Want to see what I came up with?
Let’s take a tour of the house!
Here are my simple decor ideas to help you bring the feeling of summer inside your home!
Add color
This summer I’m bringing the sunshine indoors with the color yellow!
I’ll start by adding forsythia branches to a vase sitting on the foyer table.
Change your pillows
One of the simplest ways to change the look of your decor is to switch out throw pillows seasonally.
I’ll pull the yellow from the foyer into the living room with throw pillows!
Pillows offer a wonderful way to add texture to your space.
Display FRUIT
Want a simple way to decorate your kitchen?
Use real, faux, or a combination of fruits and vegetables in pretty containers.
I’m displaying faux apples in a cloche on my kitchen shelves.
We usually have some type of real fruit on the kitchen counter, in a bowl or basket!
This week happens to be honey crisp apples in a wooden bowl!
Decorate a Tray
Another simple tip to decorate your kitchen counter is to use a tray!
I added lemons, limes, and a cute French bee to embellish my white-tiered tray!
glass bottle vignette
Create a vignette to decorate your coffee table!
I added a very simple vignette of three glass bottles to my coffee table in the living room! If you’d like to know how to make this wood bead garland, click here!
incorporate wicker
Wicker reminds me of summer and provides another simple way to add decor during this season!
I usually buy one or two new items per season to decorate my house.
You all know I love a good bargain so I couldn’t pass these items up!
I found this cute wicker vase at Target for 50% off.
The painted palm fronds are from Hobby Lobby and were also 50% off!
Plant an indoor herb garden
I planted these herbs this Spring and have enjoyed having an indoor herb garden. To see how I created these aged Fench pots click here!
Chair exchange
A simple way to make a room look completely different is to exchange the chairs at your table.
I tried this with my kitchen and dining room chairs! I love this look so much! A completely different feel without spending a dime!
Set a simple table
I took the faux hydrangea from my patriotic tablescape and put them in this Grecian bust planter to make a simple centerpiece.
It’s summertime, and living is easy!! That means tablescapes are simple. But as you can see, simple can still be beautiful!
Accent with Artwork
Finding artwork that I like, and is affordable, has been very difficult for me!
So, I took matters into my own hands!
I transformed an old welcome sign into this unique piece of art! Click here to see the DIY project!
Well, my friends, the tour is done!
I hope you enjoyed my simple tips to dress up my house for summer!

Hello Donna, love everything about your post, screen shotted everything for quick reference! Could you explain a little further about the chair exchange? What do you mean when you say “without spending a dime” ?
Do you mean exchange them from one room to another?
My chairs look exactly like yours but then bottom is a lighter beige and they have been with us for a long time and can’t remove those stains. Wish I can replace the fabric but looks that it will need a professional to do it. I rather buy new ones but don’t have the funds right now that’s why it called my attention what you said.
Thanks 😊
Donna Allen says
Hi Leslie! So glad you enjoyed the post! Yes, I meant exchange the chairs from one room to another. I switched my kitchen and dining room chairs out for the summer season! I got a completely different vibe in each area without spending any money! I wrote a post on how to reupholster different types of seats, maybe it can help?? Put the word reupholster in the search box of our blog and it should come up!
Leslie says
That’s what I thought, thanks for clarifying and ok, I will look up your upholstery post in your blog! Thank you so much.
Donna Allen says
You are so welcome! If you can remove the seat from the chair, you should be able to reupholster it! Good luck!
