I don’t go all out for this holiday, but I think it’s fun to decorate one area of my house.
This year, it’s the entryway!
I wanted to do something different, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money!
I saw all kinds of interesting potion bottles and apothecary jars on Pinterest!
So, several months ago, I started saving glass jars of varying shapes and sizes.
Then, I headed to my favorite store for cheap and easy DIYing!
None other than Dollar Tree!
I found lots of little treasures to help me put together some spooky potion bottles!
Steps to make spooky potion bottles from jars
Gather
Gather the following items to make this DIY:
- Assorted jars from pickles, barbecue sauce, spices, salad dressing, etc.
- Goo Gone
- Razor blade
- Labels- I got mine from Lia Griffith Designs.
- Items to put inside your jars -these will depend on what your labels say.
- Assorted items to embellish lids-skulls, bones, snakes, spiders, and corks.
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Paintbrush
- Black spray paint
- Black chalk paint
Prep
Complete the following steps to prepare for this DIY:
- Remove labels from jars with Goo Gone and a razor.
- Wash the jars.
- Spray paint the lids black.
- Print labels (click the link to the labels I used above) and cut them out with scissors.
- Assign each label to a jar.
Attach labels
Paint the Mod Podge onto the back of the label.
Adhere the label to the glass jar.
Items to fill & decorate jars
Now for the fun part!
Filling the jars with interesting objects!!
Tarantula legs
Use wire cutters to remove the legs from the tarantula!
Crow feathers
If you can’t find black feathers, spray paint the colored ones black.
Werewolf fur
I could not find inexpensive faux fur, so I opted for hair instead!
Hopefully, next year, I can find something that looks like fur!
Toadstools
Wooden mushrooms work perfectly in the toadstool jar!
Bone Powder & Unicorn Dust
I used plain white sugar for the unicorn dust.
I mixed white sugar and coconut sugar to make bone powder!
Dangerous liquids
Fill the bottles with water and add food coloring.
Items to embellish bottle caps
Styrofoam skulls and bones, get a coat of black paint!
I also found plastic snakes and spiders!
Now, take a look at the finished bottles!
Embellish bottles
Put two crossed bones on the bone powder bottle!
Add gray and white string around the cap.
Grace the top of the toadstool clippings jar with a wooden toadstool.
Wrap twine around the lid!
Coil a snake on top of the snake venom bottle!
Add black and white string around the cap!
Attach a skull to the bottle full of arsenic!
Wrap a black ribbon around the bottle!
Glue a tarantula on top of a jar full of spider legs!
Wrap the lid with a piece of Creepy Cloth!
Cut the ends off of a styrofoam bone to make a unicorn horn and glue it to the lid of horn dust.
Glue a black and white ribbon around the lid!
Glue a skull and cross bones on the lid of the highly potent elixir!
