So much so that I collected too many and recently had to do a pillow purge!
After I organized my remaining pillows, I made myself a promise that I would only buy or make pillow covers from now on!
Do you want to know what else I adore?
Pom poms!
So, I decided to combine the two, to make a beautiful pom pom throw pillow!
This is one of my favorite pillow covers I’ve ever made!
I liked it so much I made two!
The cuteness is off the charts!
Tips to make A DIY pom pom pillow
Here are some things to think about before making DIY pom pom pillows!
1) Decide how many pom poms you want to make
Consider how much time and what your budget is before beginning this project.
The cost of this project will depend on how many pom poms you make!
My original plan was to put pom poms on the four corners of my pillows.
After I made one, I thought it was so cute that I decided to make more and put them around the edge of the pillow!
I found making pom poms fun and very therapeutic.
So, back to Hobby Lobby, I went to buy two more skeins of yarn!
I used 28 pom poms on each pillow, which took quite a bit of time!
They turned out so great!
It was worth the extra time and money I spent!
If you don’t want to spend hours making pom poms, you can use less!
2) Invest in the right tools
If you plan to make a lot of pom poms, I encourage you to invest in a pom pom maker and small scissors!
I bought a set of four pom pom makers, and I’m so glad I did!
It made the job so easy and fun!
If you don’t want to invest in one, you can Google how to DIY a pom pom.
I found it hard to use a large pair of scissors that weren’t that sharp to cut the yarn.
So, I purchased small scissors with pointed ends, which worked great!
Steps to make A DIY pom pom pillow
I made my first pillow at home while watching Christmas movies, so I didn’t take any pictures of the process.
Then, I decided to make the pom poms for the second pillow while we were on a road trip!
I figured weird pictures are better than no pictures!
So now you know why some of the pics are taken in a car!

Make the pom poms
Wrap the yarn around the pom pom maker!
If you have not used one of these before, you might want to practice a few times to decide how much yarn you want to use!
The more yarn you wrap around it, the fuller the pom pom gets.
Cut the yarn.
Take a seven-inch piece of yarn and tie it around the pom pom!
Pull as tight as you can and make a knot!
Remove the pom pom from the maker!
Your pom will not be perfectly even, so take your scissors and trim the loose ends to shape it into a circle.
Attach pom poms to the pillow cover
Use a large doll needle to pull the thread through the pillow cover.
I had trouble threading the yarn through the needle, so I put a piece of tape on each end.
Pull one thread of the yarn through the needle, remove the tape, and push it inside of the pillow cover.
Repeat the process with the second piece of yarn, leaving a small space between the two pieces.
Then, tie the pieces of yarn together several times to make a knot.
*Tip- do not pull both strands of yarn through the pillow cover at the same time. I tried this and the pom poms can be pulled through the fabric if tugged on!
*Tip- If your strands of yarn are too short, use two doll needles and push them through the pillow cover simultaneously.
Continue these steps until all of your pom poms have been attached!
Insert your pillow into the cover!
Style your DIY pom pom pillows
Display them on a couch layered with other seasonal pillows.
Set them on a pair of chairs!
Dress up a chaise lounge!
Look how pretty the DIY pillow looks next to my favorite Winter faux fur throw blanket!
Now I’m going take a rest in this spot, put my feet up, get cozy, and dream of the next project I can create with my pom pom maker!
