I want to make it feel warm and cozy!
Last Winter, I made a wreath out of three of my old sweaters. You can see that DIY here!
I took the arm and neck pieces, and made these cute cozies for three of my glass vases!
I didn’t put the DIY on the blog because I thought it was too simple of a project to make a post about.
But guess what…
I still have some of the sweater pieces left over, and these cute little cozies inspired me to make some throw pillows!
Want to see what I came up with?
Here you go!
Don’t they look amazing?
I’m so excited because I don’t sew very often, but I’m thrilled with how they turned out.
To be honest, I shouldn’t be giving anyone advice on how to sew!
I figured if I can do it, anyone else can too!
But before we talk sewing, I decided to show you how I made those cute glass cozies.
Tip 1) make cozies for glass vases
These are no-sew and super easy to make!
Gather
Gather the following items to make this project:
- Sweater
- Glass vases
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape
Cut sweater
Choose a sweater with interesting arms and a turtle neck, if possible.
Cut the arms and turtle neck off the sweater.
Tuck a vase into the arm section and cut the excess material from the bottom of the vase.
Adhere the double-sided tape to the bottom edge of the vase.
Adhere the sweater to the bottom of the vase.
Can you believe how easy it is to make cozy home decor out of sweaters??
And now let’s make some pillows!
Those of you that sew will probably laugh at how I did these!
Oh well, here goes!
Tip 2) MAKE COZY Throw PILLOWs
GATHER
Gather or purchase the following items:
- Old sweaters- don’t have any you can part with, purchase them from a thrift shop
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pillow inserts- or fiberfill
- Interfacing
- Needle
- Thread
Cut the sweater
Lay a sweater flat on a table then put the pillow on top of it.
Cut out around the pillow, being careful with scissors, as they will be sharp.
Add interfacing
Interfacing will add stiffness to your pillow and makes it much easier to sew.
I think it adds a professional look to the pillows!
Lay your sweater down and place the interfacing on top of it.
Cut it the same size as the sweater.
Put the sweater right side down on the ironing board.
The tacky side of the interfacing should be touching the sweater.
Being very careful, place a medium-hot iron on the interfacing and hold for ten seconds.
Lift the iron and see how the interfacing adheres to the sweater.
Continue across the sweater in the same manner.
Remember, you don’t iron, you just press down!
Since this sweater has buttons, I will use two separate pieces of interfacing. That way I can unbutton the case to put the pillow inside.
Button the sweater.
Lay the two pieces with the right sides touching.
Pin them together.
Sew the pillow
Sew around all four sides of the sweater.
Important note: If your pillow does not have buttons, sew three of the sides. Leave a hole on the fourth side to insert the pillow. Then, hand-sew the hole closed.
Remove pins and trim the bulky ends off the sweater.
Turn it inside out and stuff it with a pillow insert or fiberfill.
Here’s the finished pillow!
Here is the pillow I made that matches the glass cozies!
I used a drop cloth for the back of the pillow because I did not have enough of the sweater left to do both sides!
Well, how do you think I did??
Pretty good for someone that has to read the instructions every time they need to thread the needle, lol!!
Oh yes, I almost forgot, when I made the cozies, I also made these cute napkin rings!
Tip 3) MAKE NAPKIN HOLDERS
This is the easiest napkin holder I ever made!
I just tucked a scrap piece of the sweater around a napkin holder and ta-da!!
Perfect for a Winter tablescape!

Hi Donna! I love the texture that sweaters bring into a room. Particularly if your decor is in a neutral color palette. You provided some fabulous ideas in this post and the best part is that they are all so achievable. Happy New Year!

OMGoodness this is the cutest idea. I love both the candle cozy and the pillowcase with the buttons. Definitely a great way to warm the house back up when it feels “naked” in the absence of Christmas décor, lol!
Donna Allen says
I’m always sad when I take down the Christmas decor and lights, so I do enjoy making the house feel cozier in their absence! Thanks so much and have a happy day!

I’ve just had to buy new jumpers because most of mine now have paint on them, this could be great for the ones that are too good to give away. Thanks for the ideas!
