We are organizing the working zone of our home and the first space we are going to tackle is the kitchen!
If you are here for the first time and need info on the challenge, click here!
First, we’re going to share how we organized our cabinets and drawers, and then, we’ll share our six-step strategy that you can use to organize your kitchen!
Welcome to our kitchen!
It is the heart of our home, where we cook and eat daily!
Storage is the key to keeping this room organized.
Would you like to see our best storage solutions to keep our kitchen cabinets and drawers neat?
Let’s begin with the drawers!
kitchen Drawer storage solutions
roll or File fold kitchen towels and dishcloths
Roll or file fold your dish towels so you can see all of them!
Store them near your sink if you can!
invest in divided drawer organizers
Divided drawer organizers are a must-have item to organize kitchen drawers!
Don’t forget to measure your drawer before you head to the store to purchase one!
Store like items together in drawers
Organize your kitchen in zones by putting similar items in the same drawer.
Meal prep drawer
Everything I need to prep meals is in this drawer. I use a wire mesh organizer to store my cutters, choppers, mashers, and mincers!
Measuring drawer
This drawer holds measuring tools and spatulas (and a meat thermometer).
Junk Drawer
Please tell me you have a junk drawer in your kitchen and I’m not the only one!!
It’s not the prettiest drawer since we have three different types of organizers, well four counting the battery organizer.
That’s ok because it’s functional!!
Use bamboo drawer dividers
If you have long items that won’t fit in a drawer organizer, use bamboo dividers instead!
You can customize the dividers with bamboo slats to fit large and small items!
Consider a Wrap dispenser and storage bag organizer
Every year I purchase at least one new storage item for the kitchen!
This year I bought a bamboo organizer to contain my kitchen wraps and storage bags!
This organizer is impressive, but it does have one downside!
My parchment paper and plastic wrap are too long and don’t fit.
I went to the store to see if I could find them in a 12-inch length.
The good news is, the store did have both items 12 inches in length!
The bad news is, the plastic wrap was too fat to fit!
Oh well, I’ll use it a few times and then put it inside the organizer!
Here’s what the drawer looked like before!
I was using the bamboo drawer dividers for my zipper bags.
And here’s what the drawer looks like now, with the new organizer!
I put my “fat” box of plastic wrap in between the two bamboo boxes.
When it gets skinny enough, I’ll add it to the organizer.
I’ll let you know next year if I like this setup or not!
kitchen Cabinet storage solutions
Now let’s take a look inside the kitchen cabinets.
Use baskets to corral small items
This is my baking cabinet where I store my muffin, cake, and baking pans.
I keep my mixer here and the basket contains small items.
Cake decorating supplies, muffin cups, sprinkles, and food coloring are inside.
We store our small appliances in this cabinet, and the basket contains parts for the food processor.
Install pull-out trash can
I love these pull-out cans for our trash and recycling!
We labeled them so our guests would know the difference!
use office storage in the kitchen
Instead of purchasing an organizer to hold my cutting boards up, I used an office incline file sorter that I no longer needed in my office.
Get creative when thinking about ways to store and organize your kitchen items.
store lids separately
If you have room, store lids separately from their containers.
We use a second file sorter to hold my Calphalon lids.
A pot lid organizer stores the glass lids.
It is easy to find and remove the correct size lid when you store them this way!
If you don’t have room for an organizer like this, file the lids in a basket or box.
Use tiered organizers for pots and pans
Use the vertical space inside cabinets whenever you can!
These are two of my favorite kitchen organizers!
I purchased the pot organizer, on the left, last year.
When I put it together I did not think I was going to like it because it seemed a bit flimsy.
However, it has held up well and does a great job of holding all those pots!
Add a lazy Susan to your cabinet
Put a lazy Susan in your cabinet to make it easy to grab and see items you are storing.
I use one for my kitchen cleaning supplies!
use shelf racks to maximize vertical space
A storage rack can double the space on a shelf!
Go vertical whenever possible!
Invest in a spice rack
When we moved into this house, I tried organizing my spices in a drawer, but I’m not a fan!
I prefer to use a spice rack.
I purchased this last year and it’s the best spice rack I’ve ever owned.
It’s very versatile! It can be used on the counter, in a cabinet, on a shelf, or hung on a wall!
I highly recommend it!
find an Organizer for the type of coffee and tea you use
This is our beverage cabinet.
We store items needed to make smoothies, coffee, and tea.
We have a Keurig that can brew a pot of coffee or one cup at a time.
The black metal organizer provides perfect storage for the k-cups we keep for our guests.
We have a plastic-tiered organizer to store our tea and lemonade packets.
Hopefully, you enjoyed seeing the storage solutions we use in our kitchen cabinets and drawers.
Are you excited to organize your kitchen now?
We have a great strategy to help you get the job done!

PREPARE
Set up your kitchen with a trash bag, a cardboard box, and a laundry hamper. Next, clear everything off of your kitchen table.
PURGE
Remove everything from your cabinets and sort all of the items into one of the following categories:
- Trash-put any item that is worn out or broken in the trash bag
- Donate-put items that you no longer use, but are in good shape into the cardboard box to donate
- Relocate-put any items that don’t belong in the kitchen cabinet into the laundry hamper
- Replace- items that need to stay in the kitchen cabinets should be placed on the kitchen table. Put like items together into categories.
POLISH
Now is the perfect time to deep clean your cabinets inside and out. Consider adding shelf liners.
PERSONALIZE
Personalize the kitchen to meet your needs by asking yourself the following question:
What items do I need to make or purchase to contain items inside the cabinets?
PLACE
Now it’s time to place items back in your kitchen cabinets in an organized manner.
- Discard the trash bag you filled up!
- If you have items to donate, don’t wait around, take them to the donation center soon!
- If you have items that belong in another room, deliver them now.
- Replace the items on your kitchen table and put them in a cabinet closest to the area you will use them. For example, put pots and pans near your stove.
PUT BACK
If you want to keep your kitchen organized, you have to put things back in the cabinet you designated them to go in!
After you organize your cabinets, use the same strategy for the drawers!

Great ideas — just wish your links to products were in the same order as the pictures — it is very hard to figure out which link goes with which picture!

Everything looks so neat and clean! I love that holder for the Ziploc bags…how functional! My Ziplocs get so out of control…such a great idea! I also am going to try rolling my dish towels and rags to save on drawer space for those. Thanks so much for sharing at Home Imagined, Donna!
