I made this simple wreath to display on the mirror in our eat-in kitchen.
No matter where you live, you can dive into the coastal spirit and bring a bit of the ocean into your home with this charming DIY rope wreath.
Materials Needed
Gather the following materials to complete this project:
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare Work Surface
I laid down wax paper to protect my glass coffee table because I wanted to watch TV while doing this project!
It’s an easy project but it does take a while to cover the wreath form with rope.
So put on a favorite movie or show and let’s start crafting!
Create the Base
I purchased a 14-inch metal wreath form from Dollar Tree for $1.25.
Secure the end of the rope to the inner wire of the wreath form with hot glue.
Continue by gluing the second row of rope to the first row.
Whenever you reach a wire, adhere the rope to it.
Be very careful because hot glue can burn you.
We recommend using silicone finger protectors.
Continue until the top of the wreath form is covered with the rope.
Wrap the Rope
Find the section of the wreath where you started and wrap the rope around it three to five times.
This will camouflage the cut end piece.
I went around five times.
Cut the rope and hot glue it to the back of the wreath form.
You can stop here if you like but I continued and wrapped the rope in three other sections.
It reminds me of a life bouy!
Add Embellishments
I want to keep my wreath simple but you can add a hanger or embellishments to yours.
You may need to add a bit of rope to the top to hang yours up.
I used a clear suction cup on my mirror, hung the wreath over it, and concealed it with a fishing net.
Consider adding seashells, starfish, or anchors to your wreath!
Display Your Wreath
There are many ways to display a DIY rope wreath in your home!
As I mentioned earlier, I am using mine in our eat-in kitchen.
You could hang yours on a front door, decorate a bathroom, or add seasonal variations or holiday elements!
Ours added the perfect nautical vibe to our coastal Father’s Day tablescape!
In Conclusion
Crafting a nautical-inspired wreath is a rewarding project and a wonderful way to bring a touch of the seaside into your home.
With its simple materials and straightforward process, this DIY rope wreath is perfect for both seasoned crafters and beginners alike.
Personalize it with your favorite nautical elements, and you’ll have a unique piece that reflects your style and love for the coast.

Super cute!! Looks just like a nautical wreath ought to look 🙂 Easy and cheap…those are my kind of projects!
Donna Allen says
Totally agree! Easy and cheap are the best, as long as it doesn’t look cheap when it’s done, lol!!! Thank you!!

I love this wreath Donna, there are so many things to do with rope, and this one is at the top of my list. I live no where near a body of water, but I always find myself drawn to coastal pieces, it’s probably why your wreath speaks to me. I have to admit, I have been looking at homes near water lately, probably just wishful thinking on my part though, lol. Hope you are doing well.

We looked at homes closer to the water when we moved but they were all out of our price range! So I’ll just keep dreaming about my water view since sometimes dreams come true!! Glad you like the wreath! Take care!
