Every year I take time to declutter and update every room in my home and I’d like to challenge you to organize your entire home this year! I know it sounds terrifying, doesn’t it? Well, I’m here to tell you that it can be done if you’re willing to set some simple goals. I’m asking you to plan to organize 5 areas of your home each season. By the end of the year, you’ll be living a clutter-free life!

Simple steps to organize your entire home
- Sign up to receive our weekly emails to give you guidance and encouragement. As a gift for signing up, you will receive access to our free printable library with instructions on how to organize every room of your home.
- Print our seasonal organization strategy sheets and put them in a binder.
- Fill out the seasonal home organization goal sheet. Begin by dividing your home into zones: I have divided my home into four zones and I tackle one zone each season. You are welcome to follow my plan or change the zones to suit your needs. Here are the four zones I have created:
- Working: These are the rooms that I work in regularly- the office, kitchen, and laundry room. The kitchen is a big job, so I separate it from the pantry. I do the same in my office by organizing the paper clutter on a different day.
- Personal living: These are the rooms that are personal to each individual who lives in our home. Master bedroom, additional bedrooms, closets (bedroom, linen, cleaning), master bathroom, additional bathrooms.
- Entertaining: The main rooms a guest would frequent when coming to our home. Entryway, living room, dining room, family/playroom, guest room.
- Outdoor: All outdoor spaces of our home. Garage (shed), Porch (patio, deck), Attic (unfinished basement), Cars (camper, boat), Yard.
- Choose the room or space you want to start with and fill out the corresponding printable sheets.
How to stay motivated past January
Most people get very excited about making goals in January only to be disappointed at the end of the month. So, I encourage you to implement the strategies below so you will have a greater chance of meeting your goal!
- Choose an accountability partner. You will be more likely to succeed if you have someone holding you accountable to follow through on your goals. So, contact a friend or a relative who can go on this journey with you! I’m sure you know someone who can use some help in this area!
- Share your progress. Follow me on Facebook and post pictures of your newly organized spaces! We can all help motivate each other!
- Subscribe to our weekly email. As I mentioned above, by subscribing to the blog you will be able to see what I’m working on each week and gain inspiration and ideas about how to organize your own spaces. You’ll also be able to print an instruction sheet on how to organize a specific area and a second sheet to help you brainstorm how to personalize that space to your needs.
Feeling overwhelmed?
If the idea of organizing your entire home seems overwhelming just make a goal to organize one room. If organizing an entire room seems overwhelming then plan to start with one area like a drawer or a cabinet. Once you have been successful in organizing one thing, you’ll build up the confidence to do something larger the next time!
The schedule I’ll be following
Winter: Working Zone
- Office
- Paper
- Kitchen
- Pantry
- Laundry room
Spring: Outdoor Zone
- Garage (Shed)
- Porch (Patio, Deck)
- Attic (Basement, Storage room)
- Cars (Camper, Boat)
- Yard
Summer: Personal Living Zone
- Master Bedroom
- Children’s Bedrooms
- Master Bathroom
- Bathrooms
- Closets
Fall: Entertaining Zone
- Entryway
- Dining Room
- Living Room
- Family/Play Room
- Holiday
I hope you will use this weekend to get your organization binder put together and next week we’ll get started on our journey to organize your entire home in one year! If you want more info on how my strategy works, check out this post:
