Do you have pinecones in your yard or know of someplace you can collect them? Don’t wait another minute! Go outside, gather them up, and let me show you how to make an amazing pinecone wreath for Winter!
If you’ve been following the blog, you already know we have three large plastic containers filled with pine cones that I saved from our yard in Kentucky.

I promised Rich I would make something out of them, and last Fall made a beautiful pinecone flower wreath. It turned out great, but it did not even make a dent in the pinecone collection!
So, I’m going to make good on that promise and use a lot more pinecones on this project!
Here is the amazing pinecone wreath I made to decorate our front door for Winter!
You can never have too many wreaths, can you???
Absolutely not, so let me show you how to make this gorgeous wreath!
Gather
Gather or purchase the following items to do this project:
- Pinecones-gathered from our yard
- Tiny pinecones-purchased from Hobby Lobby
- Wreath form-purchased from Dollar Tree
- Floral wire
- Wire cutter or scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Spray paint-Rustoleum Paint + Primer Satin in White
Prep
Separate your pinecones into three piles: small, medium, and large. Do not include the tiny pinecones at this time. We will use them later!
Make the pinecone wreath
This wreath is very easy to make, but it is time-consuming.
You must wait for the hot glue to dry on each pine cone before you add another one.
So, put on a movie you want to watch, and let’s start this DIY!
Attach pine cones
Cut a piece of floral wire and wrap it around the bottom of a large pine cone.
Attach it to the outermost piece of the wreath form. Wrap the floral wire around the form and the stem of the pinecone.
Attach the medium pinecone to the middle of the wreath form.
Then do the same with the small pinecone placing it on the inside edge of the form.
Hot glue the stems to the wreath form and then glue the pinecones together in the middle where they touch each other.
Use caution when using a glue gun, the glue is hot and can cause blisters.
We recommend using silicone finger protectors.
Continue the same steps around the wreath form.
When I finished, I wasn’t pleased with how the wires showed in several places around the wreath.
Luckily, I had purchased some tiny pinecones at Hobby Lobby after they drastically marked down their fall items!
Fill in open areas
I laid all the tiny pinecones on my desk, so I could see their sizes.
I used the larger ones where the wire showed more prominently.
Most of the tiny pine cones have a bent stem that fits perfectly on the wire.
Carefully hot glue each pine cone to the wire wreath form.
I also placed a few tiny pinecones randomly inside the wreath to camouflage any holes I saw.
The tiny pinecones finished off the wreath beautifully!
I love the pretty circle they make in the center of the wreath!
Display the wreath
I made this wreath for my front door.
As you can see, our door is black.
It looks very pretty close-up in its natural state!
Unfortunately, from the road, it blends in, and no one will notice it.
So, I decided to paint it white!
Paint the wreath
I took the wreath out to our garage and gave it several light coats of spray paint.
This is after one coat of spray paint!
When the top dries, turn it over and spray paint the back.
If you look closely, you can see strings of hot glue, especially on the bottom two pinecones.
Take a pair of tweezers and pull them off!
The finished look
Let’s hang it on the door now!
I love the contrast between black and white!
I think it’s perfect for the season and guess what…
I’m going to pretend my amazing pinecone wreath is covered in Winter snow!

Thanks! It took me a while to figure out how to attach the pinecones to the form, but I’m pleased with how it turned out! I was a bit nervous about painting it white, but I’m happy I did!

Just pinned this Donna and will share it next Friday too. It’s totally fabulous! I love all the different shapes you added and how it looks great with or without the spray paint. It definitely makes it versatile for the holidays and winter which is nice when you’re short on storage like we are. Hugs, CoCo

Isn’t it funny how a mistake can turn out great? I was not planning to use the smaller pinecones on the inside but needed to cover the wire, and I just love how it looks! Thank you for sharing it with your readers, I appreciate that so much!! Hugs to you!

This is stunning. I bet it took a long time but the design is amazing. Great job and the feature at To Grandmas House We Go.
Donna Allen says
Thank you, Regina! Yes, waiting for the glue to dry on the pinecones makes the project take longer, but I think it was worth it!

Stunning wreath! I don’t know where you live, but do you think a wreath like this could stay in a NC screened porch year round?
Thank you!
Lorraine

If it’s protected from the elements inside a screened porch, I think it would be fine! Let me know if you make one!! Have a great day!
