Memorial Day has come and gone, and that means summer is here! Well, the actual first day of summer is June 21st, and that means it’s time to make my summer home organization goals! It gets really hot outside this time of year, so I’ll be spending lots of time at our beautiful swimming pool!
But, when it’s too hot to be outside, I’ll be organizing the personal living areas inside my home. Those areas consist of bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets. This works great because my college boys are home and can help with their own rooms! We are going to have a lot of fun, not only organizing but decorating several spaces! I hope you’ll join me and set some summer home organizational goals for yourself!

Why I Organize by the seasons
Deciding what to organize in your home can be overwhelming! To make the task easier, I organize a different zone each season of the year! For instance, I just spent the Spring organizing the “Outdoor Zone” of our home. Now I’m getting ready to organize the “Personal Living Zone”. This is how I break down the zones of my home:
Summer – Personal Living
These are the rooms that are personal to each individual who lives in your home. Master bedroom, additional bedrooms, closets (bedroom, linen, cleaning), Master bathroom, additional bathrooms.
Fall – Entertaining
The Entertaining Zone consists of the rooms a guest would frequent when coming to your home. Guests typically will spend time in the entryway, living room, dining room, family/playroom, or guest room while visiting your home.
Winter – Working
The Working Zone consists of the rooms I work in regularly. The office, kitchen, and laundry room make up this zone. Since the kitchen is such a big job, I separate it from the pantry. I do the same in my office, by organizing paperwork at a different time.
Spring – Outdoor
The Outdoor Zone includes all outdoor spaces of your home. Garage (shed), porch (patio, deck), storage (attic/unfinished basement), cars (camper/boat), and yard.

Make a home organization binder
If I don’t set goals for myself, I will never get anything done! To help me reach my summer home organization goals, I developed a seasonal home organization binder with printables to help reach each goal! Follow the steps below to set up your binder!
Gather or purchase a one inch, three ring binder.
Print the cover sheet below for the front of your binder.
Print the seasonal home organization goal sheet. You have a choice of two different sheets!
Choose the sheet that’s shown below if you plan to organize rooms along with me.
OR
Choose the empty sheet if you want to organize different areas than me.
Print the Summer schedule and write down what you plan to accomplish each week of the season!
Print sheets for each area you want to organize. If you are following along with me, you’ll need to print the master bedroom, bedroom, master bathroom, bathroom, and closet sheets!
Ideas to keep you motivated through Summer
Most people get very excited about making new goals, only to be disappointed by the end of the season. So, I encourage you to implement the strategies below, to have a greater chance of meeting your goal!
- Choose an accountability partner. You will be more likely to succeed if you have someone holding you accountable to actually follow through on your goals. So, contact a friend or a relative that can go on this journey with you! I’m sure you know someone who can use some help in this area!
- Subscribe to our weekly email, even if you don’t want access to the printable library. By subscribing to the blog you will be able to see what I’m working on each week and gain inspiration and ideas about how to organize your own spaces. You can ask questions in the comment section or leave comments about what works for you! I don’t have all the answers and you may have a suggestion that can help someone else!
- Share your progress on social media. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram and let me know how you’re doing. I would love for you to post pictures of your newly organized spaces! We can all help motivate each other!
if The Summer Challenge seems overwhelming
Does the idea of organizing five spaces during Summer seem overwhelming? If so, just make a goal to organize one room! If organizing an entire room seems overwhelming, start with one object in the room, for example, a drawer or a cabinet.
Once you have successfully organized one thing, you’ll build up the confidence to do something larger! Click here to scroll through past organization posts on the blog and see which one speaks to you. Start small, and before you know it, your entire house will be organized!!
Now that you know how to make summer home organization goals, I hope you are excited to put a binder together and get started on our journey to organize all of the personal living spaces of your home. Welcome to the Summer home organization, let’s get excited!!!
Blessings, Donna and Rich
