Here’s hoping you had a better week than we had, lol!
You see, it was one of those weeks where we had to spend a bunch of money we weren’t counting on.
First, we had to put four new tires on our son’s car.
Second, the check engine light on the car is going on and off, and we’re having diagnostics run to figure out why!
Third, we thought we had our camper sold, but discovered a problem with the roof that needs to be fixed.
Isn’t it weird how bad things happen in threes?
Have you ever experienced that or are we the only ones?
Enough complaining because our week wasn’t all bad!
There was some fun along the way!
What we’ve been up to this week
We went to the Renninger’s Yard Sale!
If you’ve been around for a while, you know we love to go to the Antique and Collectors Extravaganza they host three times a year.
This is the first time we’ve gone to one of their yard sales.
It was so hot, but it was worth it because we got some great deals!
I’ll be sharing our fabulous home decor finds in a blog post on Monday!
This was Rich’s favorite thing he saw…
It’s a good thing we don’t have grandkids yet, or this might have come home with us!
What we’ve been up to on the blog
The Summer Home Organization Challenge is going strong, and we focused on the upstairs bathroom.
We’re hoping to give this bathroom a much-needed makeover next summer, but in the meantime, we’re getting it organized and sprucing it up a bit!
I’m embarrassed to tell you that we’ve lived here three years and this is the first time we’ve done anything to this space.
Home Organization
Look at this messy bathroom!
We were overdue getting the clutter under control!
Check out how we organized the drawer and cabinets and see the after pictures!
DIY
We brought this shower curtain with us when we moved, but it was too short, so I didn’t hang it up.
When I saw how expensive extra-long shower curtains were, I decided I would buy some fabric and lengthen this one.
Three years later, I finally completed the project!
You have to take a minute to see how I made the shower curtain longer and how much cuter the bathroom is now!
What’s coming up
We only have three more posts for this month and we wanted to let you know that on the last two, we’ll be celebrating Christmas in July!
Some of you are rolling your eyes and wishing no one would even mention the word Christmas until after Thanksgiving.
While others have been watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel all month and are already planning for the big day!
No matter where you fall in between those two extremes, there are some things you can do now to make your life much easier come December.
So, we’ll share nine things you can do now to get ready!
Every year I say I’m going to start my Christmas DIYs early and I never follow through!
So this year that all changes!
Can’t wait to share the first Christmas home decor DIY project for the season!
After that, we’ll be back to our regular Summer blog posts!
If you enjoy the blog, please sign up for our email list so you won’t miss a post!
Blessings, Donna and Rich

Nicolle says
ugh Donna I feel you. We are having one of those weeks right now, our central air bit the dust and needs to be replaced. The joys of adulting right? Anyway, hope your weekend turns around 🙂
Donna Allen says
Hey Nicolle! Sorry to hear about your AC! Hope its not super hot where you live and it gets fixed soon! Here’s to a better week for both of us!!
Cara says
I am sorry to hear about your bad news in threes, but it does seem to happen that way. It is like one, happens, and then you wait for the other two shoes to drop. YUCK! BUT… the light at the end of the tunnel sounds like the yard sale you went to. I wish we had neat things like that around here. I have not seen any yard sales yet this summer which troubles me. Oh well. I am all about Christmas in July, and I am one of those Hallmark Christmas movie junkies too! Can’t wait to see what you post later this month.
Donna Allen says
Thanks, Cara! Life can be crazy at times! It’s so hot here, I’m glad to stay in and watch Christmas movies, lol!! Thanks for stopping by today!
CoCo says
So sorry you had a tough week, Donna! I know spending money on essentials like tires, repairs, and roof leaks is not nearly as fun as spending it on home decor. I can’t wait to see what you brought home from Renningers. We always go on Fridays and picked up a ton of stuff and super cheap prices. It was a blast! I hope they have the Fall in the Feilds event in September/October because it’s always so much fun too. Hugs and thanks for hosting, CoCo
Donna Allen says
Hi CoCo! You are right, I would much rather spend my money on home decor than fixing broken stuff! Oh well, that’s life and thank goodness we have an emergency fund! Hopefully we can meet at Renninger’s one day! Thanks, Donna
Rachel-The Antiqued Journey says
Hello!
So sorry about all those expensive things…I feel like that’s been the whole month of July for me. We’re all in the same boat!
Thanks so much for the feature this week…it’s truly a gift to be featured with so many of my friends! Hope you have a great weekend!
Donna Allen says
Hey Rachel! Congrats on your feature and thank you for partying with us! Bummed you are having expensive things popping up in your life this month too! I’m sure things will settle down in August! Here’s wishing you a fabulous week!
Jen says
Oh, Donna. I’m so sorry to hear about all the unplanned expenses. We’ve had some of that ourselves lately. And yes, it always seems to come in waves! Why is that?
Thank you so much for sharing my summer salsa bar. I truly appreciate it! Happy weekend!
Donna Allen says
Hi, Jen! You are welcome for the feature! We appreciate you joining us each week and linking up to our party! It is a weird phenomenon isn’t it! Sorry to hear you’ve had unexpected expenses too! Take care and have a happy week!
Kim says
Donna, we’re in the same boat this week with a car repair! I’m sorry so many things have hit at one time! I’m excited to see all of your great finds next week! Thanks so much for hosting!!
Donna Allen says
Hello, Kim! I hope your car repair is not a huge expense! I can think of so many things I would rather spend money on, lol!! Thanks for coming to the party and have a great weekend!
Anna Price says
Hi Donna – Thank you so much for hosting and for sharing the post about my antique table. Last week definitely sounded a little rough financially. Ugh. The good news is that this week should feel comparatively affordable. Hopefully!!
Donna Allen says
You are welcome Anna! We appreciate you joining our party! Yes, it was blow to us financially, but hopefully this will be a better week! Thanks for your kind words!!
