Honestly, though, I don’t have much red, white, or blue decor to decorate for memorial day or the 4th of July.
But that’s about to change because I’m making a fun wreath to celebrate these patriotic occasions!
Steps to Make a 4th of July Wreath
Gather
Gather the following items to complete this project:
- Star wreath form- Dollar Tree
- Wired ribbon-2 inches wide x 10 yards long /I used two rolls of each
- Ruler
- Scissors
Prep
Let’s start with the blue and white ribbon and cut it into seven-inch pieces.
Make
Start at the top, and tie the ribbon to the wire wreath form.
Continue until you fill in the top left side of the star.
Now add the red and white striped ribbon.
Don’t Make My Mistake
I realized I did not have enough red and white striped ribbon to fill the wreath form.
To solve the problem, I thought I would remove some red and white ribbons and replace them with solid white pieces here and there.
Unfortunately, it was not easy to untie the ribbon, and it would be time-consuming.
I did not want to buy more ribbon, so I cut the next roll about 6 inches long instead of seven.
It’s sparse in a few places, but I don’t think anyone will notice.
I also added more blue and white ribbons to help fill it out!
Here is the finished project!
It’s not perfect, but I still like it!
Would you have noticed that the ribbon in the top right section is shorter than the rest??

I love this, Donna!! Who cares if it’s not perfect…wabi-sabi!! It’s adorable and I love how you used the blue ribbon on the left corner only to mimic a flag. So cute and affordable! Pinned!

Cara says
This is a perfect wreath, Donna. I have run out of tulle and material for wreaths before, so frustrating. Good thinking to cut it shorter, I cannot tell at all. Loving your choice of ribbon for this patriotic holiday coming up. I like to keep my patriotic decor out from Memorial to Labor Day. Or maybe that is just me trying to make that decor stretch so I do not need to drag out new items every month lol!
Donna Allen says
Thanks Cara, I appreciate your kind words! So glad the wreath turned out ok, it’s frustrating when you run out of materials! Hugs, Donna

Very nice. Did you tie ribbon on all lines of the wreath?
Donna Allen says
Yes, I tied ribbon to the inner, middle, and outside wires of the wreath form. Hope that helps!
Marcia says
Just a quick question how many blue stars did you use do you know much red stripes you used ntsure thanks love the look of te wreath different were did you buy ribbon thanks chat soon
Donna Allen says
Hi Marcia! So glad you like the wreath. I did not count the number of strips that I used. I just kept tying the blue star ribbon until it covered 1/4th of the wreath on the top left side. I purchased the ribbon from Amazon. There is a link at the bottom of the post to the ribbon I used! Hope that helps!

Donna, I love it. I was wanting to make the same idea so was especially excited to get this in an email from Pinterest. Thank you for posting.
Donna Allen says
I’m so glad it’s helpful to you! Have fun making it!
Kathleen Frauenkron says
Hi Donna! I did not realize wired ribbon was used. Bought some without the wire, do you think it will work okay? If not back to the store I go! And thank you for such an awesome and simple idea!
Donna Allen says
Hi Kathleen, the wire allows you to fluff the ribbon and keeps it looking full. With out wire the wreath will look floppier but still be great. The longer your strips of ribbon, the floppier it will be, so I would try to keep them shorter. Hope that helps! Let me know how it turns out!!
