Did you know you can make flowers out of pinecones? You can, and I will use them to create a beautiful pinecone flower wreath with this simple DIY project!
If you’ve been following the blog, you know I have three plastic tubs full of pinecones in my garage! I collected them from my yard in Kentucky and brought them to Florida to use in crafts!

Since I had no idea what I was going to make with them, I did a little research on Pinterest.
I was so surprised (and a bit overwhelmed) to see hundreds of ideas!
Then, I remembered my friend Leslie at My 100-Year-Old Home had made a pinecone flower wreath during the Spring! It’s one of the prettiest wreaths I’ve ever seen! Be sure to check it out!
So I decided to make pinecone flowers and put them on a wreath!
Aren’t they beautiful?
Many people paint their pinecone flowers, but I love the natural beauty and detail of these weeping white pine cones!
If you gather pinecones from nature, read How to preserve pinecones for indoor use!
Now let’s make a wreath!
Gather
Gather the following items to make a DIY pinecone flower wreath:
- Twig wreath
- White flocked spray
- Pinecones
- Pruners
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Silicone finger protectors
- floral wire (optional)
Prep
Remove stems
Pull each stem off of the spray.
Make pine cone flowers
Cut each pinecone into flowers.
You want three to four rows of pinecone petals for each flower.
My pinecones are long, so I cut them into three pieces.
Notice the top piece is longer than the two bottom pieces.
I will save the top piece for a different project.
I needed 14 flowers for my wreath.
steps to Make a pinecone flower wreath
Adhere long stems
Separate the longer pieces from the shorter ones.
Arrange the longer pieces around the wreath.
Use a glue gun to adhere the stems to the wreath. Be very careful as the glue is extremely hot! I use silicon finger caps to protect my fingers and highly recommend them!
adhere pinecone flowers
Attach the pinecone flowers to the wreath with hot glue.
I wanted my flowers to stand upright from the wreath, so I had to hold them in place while the glue dried.
This step adds quite a bit of time to the project! I suggest you watch one of your favorite shows during this step! It will make the time go by faster!!
adhere short stems
Let the hot glue completely dry, then turn over the wreath.
Arrange the short stems around the wreath.
Adhere them to the wreath with hot glue.
Make a hanger
Decide where you will hang your wreath and make a wire hanger if needed.
Cut a piece of floral wire and bend it in half. Run it through the wire on the back of the wreath. Take the ends of the wire through the loop and then twist them around.
Here is the finished project! Isn’t it lovely?
Display your wreath
Where would you use a wreath like this, indoors or out?
Here it is on my front door!
Next, I hung it on a mirror in my dining room!
Then, I attached it to a window frame in our bedroom!
