Here are 8 easy tips and tricks to help you achieve a chic Halloween look without sacrificing the fun, spooky spirit of the holiday.
Halloween Mantel Decor Ideas
1. Choose a Color Palette
The first step to decorating your mantel is to choose a color scheme!
For a more sophisticated look, opt for neutral tones like black, white, and silver to add an elegant touch.
I shopped my house for black and white items and was happy with what I found!
2. Hang a Backdrop
Before placing items on the mantel, choose something to hang as your backdrop.
You could use a mirror, painting, empty frame, wreath, or layer a combination of those items.
I hung a hauntingly beautiful black wreath inside an empty vintage white frame.
3. Add elegant details
When I think of an elegant Halloween, the first thing that comes to mind is a masquerade ball!
So I gathered three bust statues and dressed them up for the occasion!
This one even got a crown of black roses.
4. Sneek in something spooky
Even though I don’t care for spooky Halloween decor, when I saw this picture at Dollar Tree, I knew it would look fabulous on the mantel!
When you view the portrait from the left side of the mantel, you see a handsome gentleman!
But, looking from the right side, you see something completely different!!
How fun is that?
5. Incorporate Natural Elements
An inexpensive way to add a bit of drama to your mantel is to cut dried branches from your trees.
You could also use dried flowers, pumpkins, or gourds.
If they don’t match grab a can of spray paint, I painted my branches black!
6. Illuminate Your Mantel
To add an eerie glow to your mantel, add candles, lanterns, or fairy lights.
I opted for white vintage-inspired candle holders with black taper candles.
7. Create DIY elements
I could not find small masks for my statues, so I took matters into my own hands.
First, I purchased a package of black plastic masks at Hobby Lobby.
For the two larger sculptures, I cut the masks down until they fit the shape of the head.
The eyes were not inside the holes so I had to cut new eye holes.
To cover the old holes I hot glued felt over the mask, then added feathers to one of them.
The plastic masks were too big for the smallest statue, so I cut a mask out of felt and glued it to a black hair tie.
A few years ago, I made the black wreath and potion bottles.
8. Layer Textures
I added the finishing touch to my Halloween mantel by draping a creepy cloth across the top.
You could also use velvet or lace fabric, a feather boa, or faux spider webs.
I hope you enjoyed seeing our Halloween mantel and now I have a surprise for you!
