It turned out fabulous, but there was one problem with it!
It was supposed to go on my front door!
The wreath looks so perfect in my house I decided to keep it indoors instead.
Now I’m ready to decorate the front porch for Autumn, and I need an inexpensive wreath for the door!
On top of that, I need this DIY to be quick and easy!
Never fear I have the perfect solution!
Rather than taking lots of time to adhere or tie items on a round wreath form, I’m opting for a hanging basket!
Using a basket is so fast because you put the items inside it and hang them on your door!
Super simple, right?
To keep this budget-friendly, I will shop my house and use items I already have!

Gather Items to Make a Fall Wreath
Gather or purchase the following items to make this DIY:
- A basket you can hang on a door
- Filler- brown wrapping paper or paper bags
- Fall stems or bushes -4
- Floral wire
- A pumpkin pick
- A faux pumpkin
I have had these faux leaf stems for so many years that I can’t remember when I bought them.
I’m excited because this is the first time I’m incorporating them in a wreath!
Steps to make a Fall Wreath for your Front Door
Fill Basket
Stuff the basket with the brown paper.
Add Fall Stems
Push the stem of a fall bush into the left side of the basket and then attach the bottom of the stem to the right side with floral wire.
Take the second bush, push the stem into the right side of the basket, and let the end drape down the side.
Push a stem into the left side of the basket.
Put the last stem in the center and let it fall to the left.
Place the Pumpkins
Add the pumpkin to the right side of the basket.
Fill in the open area on the left side with a pumpkin pick.
And you’re done!

I love the asymmetrical way you created this wreath, Donna. It looks so good! The orange pumpkins and all the Fall leaves are so warm and inviting too. It’s just gorgeous. Loving and pinning as always sweet friend, CoCo

I think the asymmetrical look is why I like it so much! Plus the fact it was easy and free to make, lol!! Hugs to you!
Diane says
Looks great! The one problem with baskets on the door, based on my personal experience, is how inviting they are to birds who want to nest in them. It’s usually more of a spring thing, but live birds nesting on my front door isn’t my thing.
Donna Allen says
I’m so lucky that has never happened to me but I know it’s a big problem for some people! Once we had two black crows making tons of noise because they were trying to remove faux eggs from a nest I was using in a wreath. I finally caved and removed the nest because they were so loud! Take care!
