I made gorgeous flowers from paper bags!
Can you even believe it?
Don’t they look amazing!
You can use them to decorate a lot of different ways around your house!
I made these flowers to go on an art piece!
I’ll show it to you at the end of the post!
As I was creating them, I kept thinking of different ways I might use them!
So today, I’m sharing the tutorial and showing you different ways to style them in your home!
Gather
Gather or purchase the following items to complete this project:
- White lunch bags
- Scissors
- Twine or string
- Ruler
- Pencil
Prep
Cut a six-inch piece of twine.
I am making 16 flowers, so I’ll need 16- 6″ pieces of twine.
steps to Make Flowers from lunch bags
1) remove the bottom of the bag
- Open the bag and cut down one seam.
- Cut the bottom rectangle off of the bag.
2) Cut the bag into four pieces
- Fold the rectangle in half and cut it into two pieces.
- Stack the pieces, fold them in half, and cut them.
- Now you will have four pieces.
3) Measure one inch
- Stack the four pieces of paper on top of each other.
- Lay the ruler on the bags and mark one inch.
4) Fold the papers
- Make a fold at the one-inch mark.
- Continue folding the papers in one-inch increments, in a back-and-forth direction.
- Similar to a fan or an accordion.
5) Round the ends
- Using the scissors, carefully cut the end into a rounded shape.
- Cut the other end the same way.
6) Cut a “V”
- Cut a “V” shape into one side.
7) Tie with twine
- Take a piece of twine and tie it around the papers.
- Make sure the knot is on the flat edge.
8) fan out the paper
- Place the knotted side of the paper down on the table.
- Fan out each side.
9) Fluff your flower
- Carefully pull the first layer of paper toward the center of the flower.
- Don’t worry if the paper tears. You won’t be able to tell!
- Continue pulling up each layer.
How to style flowers made from lunch bags
Want to learn a few ways to use flowers made from lunch bags?
Here are a few ideas I had!
Garland
I thought these flowers would make a lovely garland!
I cut a piece of twine seven feet long!
Then I used tiny white clothespins to attach them to the twine.
So easy to do!
Wreath
To make a wreath, I grabbed a wire wreath from The Dollar Tree!
I tied the flowers on the middle rings.
If you’re going to make these specifically for a wreath, I suggest you make the twine ties a couple of inches longer, making them easier to tie onto the frame.
Look closely at the above picture. You can see the inner wire.
If I were to keep this as a wreath, I would have used wire cutters and removed the inner circle.
Or you could use more flowers than I did, to cover all the wires!
flower arrangement
You can even make a simple flower arrangement with them!
Attach the flowers to the top of a paper towel tube.
Slide the tube into a vase or pitcher!
Artwork
This is the reason I made these flowers!
New artwork to hang above the console table!

These are so wonderful – I especially like the wreath. I didn’t know what white lunch bags were – I guess we don’t have that kind of thing in New Zealand – our children generally take their lunches in a lunch box.
Donna Allen says
Hey Carol! Glad you liked the flowers! Most people here use lunchboxes as well! Years ago, people used brown paper bags to carry their lunch. You might hear someone say, “I’m brown-bagging it today, meaning I brought my lunch today.” I had to order the white bags from Amazon because the stores usually just carry brown paper bags! Happy Day, Donna
