Our bottle brush tree is in full bloom!
The grass is getting greener!
Birds are chirping!
And the bees are buzzing!
But,
There is one downside!
Everything is covered in pollen!!!
And that can only mean one thing.
Ready or not, it’s time to Spring clean the porch!
use the 6/p strategy to Spring Clean your porch
Use the 6/P strategy to spring clean and organize your porch (deck or patio).
1) PREPARE
Collect the following items:
- heavy-duty trash bag
- broom or leaf blower
- hose or power washer
- microfiber cloths
2) PURGE
Remove everything off your porch, patio, and/or deck. If you do not have any clutter in this space, skip to the Polish step. If you do have clutter on your porch, do the following:
- Trash – discard any trash or leaf/tree debris in the trash bag.
- Donate – If you have items or furniture on your porch that you no longer want but are in good shape, donate them.
- Relocate – Remove any items that don’t belong in this space.
- Replace – Place any items that need to stay on the porch in the yard, placing like items together.
3) POLISH
Now it’s time to clean the porch and your furniture. Start at the top of the porch and work your way down.
4) PERSONALIZE
Now comes the fun part! It’s time to make this space personal to you!! If you’re not adding decor to your outdoor living spaces, you should be. Use my Personalize the Porch printable to help you brainstorm ways to make your outdoor areas as comfortable as your indoor areas!
5) PLACE
Now it’s time to place your items back on the porch in an organized manner.
- Trash – Dispose of the trash bag with your garbage pick-up.
- Donate – Take your cardboard box to the nearest donation center as soon as possible.
- Relocate – If you have any items that don’t belong on the porch, take them where they belong now.
- Replace – Place the rest of the items in your yard back on the porch.
6) PUT BACK
Keep your porch looking neat and tidy! Don’t let items that don’t belong in this area find a home here! No clutter on the porch!

great tips – I too love power washing! Could you tell me how you hung the basket on the front door? I have one with a picture hanging bracket on it that I hung on a brass wreath hanger, but it doesn’t hang straight vertically. I don’t want to put a nail in the door…

Hi there! I have two black Command Hooks on my door. If you look closely at the picture of me power washing, you can see the hooks on the door. If you want to see how I pinned the handles on the basket, click on the link to the floral basket wreath. I didn’t want to put a nail in my front door either! Happy Spring, Donna

The pollen is so heavy in Delaware this year too! While riding down one of our roads yesterday, I literally saw a cloud of pollen! It was the weirdest thing. Thanks for your tips about spring cleaning the front porch – I am cleaning mine this weekend! And yes, the power washer is coming out!
