In just a few simple steps you’ll have a beautiful wreath to take you through late summer into early fall.
Here’s a peek at this super easy wreath!
Steps To Make a DIY Sunflower Wreath
Creating a DIY sunflower wreath has never been easier, especially when you pair it with a basket.
And the best part is that I already have everything I need to make this on hand!
There’s nothing better than pretty home decor for free!
Here’s the materials list if you want to replicate this look yourself!
Gather Materials
Gather the following materials required for the project:
- Hanging basket- Michael’s
- Brown packing paper- free from my Grove order
- Faux sunflowers and poppies- I’ve had these so long I don’t remember where I bought them
- Greenery- eucalyptus, Hobby Lobby
- Wired ribbon- 2.5 inches wide and 9 feet in length
Attach Ribbon to Basket
Find the center of the ribbon and pull it through the holes in the middle of the basket.
Take the ribbon on the right side and weave it into the next hole making a puff with the material.
Work across the right side and then do the same on the left.
You will have quite a bit of leftover ribbon.
Pull the right ribbon across the front of the basket and weave it inside and out near the center.
Do the same with the left side and then tie a knot.
If you don’t have a basket with holes, tie the ribbon around the top of the basket and tie a bow!
Stuff Filler Inside Basket
Fill the bottom of the basket with brown packing paper.
Add Greenery
Place the eucalyptus branch into the basket towards the back.
Add more packing paper to hold it upright.
Arrange Sunflowers
Next, arrange the sunflowers in the basket.
My original plan was to stop here but I thought it looked too plain.
So I searched my flower stash and found these black and white poppies.
They’re not in season this time of year but they’ll look pretty, lol!!
I had to add picks to them with floral tape since their stems were so short.
I pulled some greenery pieces toward the front and tucked the white flowers into the basket.
Add more packing paper to hold the stems if needed.
And there you go!
Can you believe how easy that was??
Oops, I almost forgot the last step, trim the ends of the ribbon!
Now it’s ready to display!
Display Your DIY Sunflower Basket
This will hang on the front door until I’m ready to decorate for Halloween and Thanksgiving!
It’s the perfect look for late summer don’t you think?
You could leave this up through fall if you like because the golden-yellow tones of sunflowers complement the earthy, autumnal colors of fall, such as oranges, browns, and reds.
Conclusion
Can you believe how easy it is to create a beautiful DIY sunflower wreath in a basket?
Whether you hang it on your front door to welcome guests or display it indoors for a splash of sunshine, this DIY wreath is a charming addition.
We hope you’ll try making one!
Happy crafting!

Love the way you weaved the ribbon in between the reeds of the basket, Donna. Sunflowers are such a beautiful way to transition from summer to fall and I love the way this came together. It’s really pretty! Big hugs, CoCo

I love the way you wove the ribbon between the reeds Donna! You also brought back so many memories to me with this simple wreath. I began collecting for my future home when I was 18, and I kept picking up black and white, anything I could get my hands on, and I also added sunflowers to the mix. My mother would tell me, your tastes will change, you should save your money, and I would chuckle, and say I will always love black and white! I still do, but the sunflowers slipped a bit, I need to go through our attic in search of those now vintage pieces and see what I can come up with. Thank you so much for sharing! I do love a good walk down memory lane. Your wreath is the perfect transition into fall.

Thanks Cara! I have always been drawn to black and white, it’s classic! The sunflowers added a fun pop of color! Glad you got good memories form seeing the wreath!

I thought I was going to need more ribbon for the top part and was surprised how much was leftover! I’m glad you like them, I was afraid they were too long but decided to keep them! Have a wonderful day!
