Whether crafting this for your home or as a thoughtful handmade gift, this candle is the perfect blend of simplicity and style!
Let’s get started and bring comfort and warmth into your home!
Gather Materials
Gather the following materials to complete this project:
- Pillar candle(s) battery-operated- Dollar Tree
- Cinnamon sticks- 4” and 8” from Hobby Lobby
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Silicone finger protectors
- Ribbon- jute ribbon from Hobby Lobby
- Scissors OR utility knife OR miter shears
Steps To Create a DIY Cinnamon Stick Candle
Choose a candle
The type of candle you choose can make a big difference in the final look.
Pillar candles, which I will use for this project, work beautifully, but jar candles can also create a unique and contained style.
I suggest using candles in neutral tones that complement the cinnamon sticks, like white or beige.
A scented candle might overpower the natural aroma of the cinnamon sticks, so I suggest using an unscented one.
For added safety, consider using a faux battery-operated candle, especially if you plan to use it as a centerpiece or in high-traffic areas.
If you choose to use a real candle, never leave it unattended while burning!
Determine Height of Cinnamon Sticks
Measure your cinnamon sticks against the height of your candle.
For a polished look, cut the cinnamon sticks to match the height of the candle.
If you prefer a more rustic aesthetic, leave the cinnamon sticks slightly uneven for added texture and charm.
I will use the rustic option!
I’m using miter shears, but you can use scissors or a utility knife for precise cuts.
Adhere Cinnamon Sticks to Candle
Now it’s time to assemble your candle!
Apply a line of glue to the back of a cinnamon stick.
Note- Be very careful using hot glue. If it touches your skin, it can cause blisters. We suggest using silicone finger protectors to prevent burns.
Press the stick firmly against the side of the candle, starting from the base.
Repeat this process, working your way around the candle until cinnamon sticks surround it.
Embellish with Ribbon
Once the cinnamon sticks are securely attached, add a decorative touch by wrapping ribbon, twine, or jute around the candle.
Tie it in a bow or knot to keep it in place.
I chose a jute ribbon.
Consider adding small accents like faux greenery or tiny pinecones for winter, or add red or pink ribbon for a Valentine’s Day gift!
Display your DIY Cinnamon Stick Candle
Your cinnamon stick-scented candle is ready to shine! Here are some ideas for displaying it:
- Place it on a tray with other candles and seasonal decorations for a stunning centerpiece.
- Set it on a mantel or shelf to warm up your living space.
- Use it as a welcoming accent on a coffee table or bedside table.
I’m displaying our candles on each end of the kitchen island.
I made two vignettes with a cutting board, a faux tree, a sweater-wrapped vase, and a cinnamon stick candle.
This candle also makes a thoughtful gift.
Wrap it in clear cellophane and tie it with a festive ribbon for a beautiful presentation.
Conclusion
Creating your own DIY cinnamon stick-scented candle is a quick and easy way to bring a cozy, festive vibe to your home.
With just a few simple materials and steps, you’ll have a beautiful piece of decor that smells as amazing as it looks.
We hope you’ll try it!
