1) Keep out Christmas decor that says winter
What makes you think of winter?
I think of wearing warm sweaters, evergreen trees covered in snow, warm cozy blankets, snowballs, drinking warm beverages in front of a fireplace!
Since I live in Florida, all those things are all a distant memory, so I have to make my house feel like winter inside! Here are my Christmas decorations that say winter to me!
snowy items
This is the closest I’m going to get to snowballs and snow-covered greenery!
cone trees
I made these amazing cone trees to decorate my kitchen island at Christmas.
One of my friends commented on Facebook that I could leave them out all Winter! I had not thought of that when I made them! Such a great suggestion!
Christmas village
I made a Christmas village of white houses to display on my bookshelves! I loved them so much I decided to keep them out for winter!
2) SHOP POST CHRISTMAS SALES
If all of your Christmas decorations look too Christmas-y, you can hit the sales after Christmas to get deeply discounted items.
Garland – 70% off
After Christmas, I went in search of new garlands to use on my staircase next year. I found this beautiful garland made of evergreen, eucalyptus, and pine cones. I was so thrilled to get it at 70% off! What a bargain!
I was just about to put them in a box when it hit me, I could use them for winter decor! So, I cut the tags off and displayed the garlands on the dining table, tv cabinet, and console table.
There was one garland leftover, so I did a simple DIY by wrapping it around a wreath form and adding a simple gold bow!
3) Create Vignettes with Natural elements
Vignettes are an easy way to decorate your home for winter. They look amazing on living room tables and counters!
Round basket vignette
Use natural elements like greenery and pinecones to make a beautiful vignette! Place them in a large basket with items of varying heights.
pine cone vignette
Group decor items in sets of three! I used a sweater-covered vase with evergreen and placed a large pinecone and a coaster set beside it.
oval basket vignette
This vignette is similar to the first, with evergreen and pinecones scattered in the basket. Look where else I put pinecones, they make the perfect vase filler!
4) Use cozy pillows and throws
One of the easiest and cheapest ways to change the decor of a room is to switch out decorative pillows and throw blankets!
fur pillows
These faux fur pillows are my favorite! They are so soft and snuggly, I can’t wait to pull them out every year! Don’t they look pretty with the faux fur cone trees!
Snuggly throw
This throw is so warm and snuggly, I just love it!
throw in basket
Baskets are great for storing throw blankets!
5) Incorporate candles
The pretty twinkling lights of the Christmas tree might be gone, but you can add a warm glow to your room with candles!
6) Repurpose old sweaters
On a cold day, most people reach for a sweater to keep warm!
So why not cozy up your decor and dress it up in an old sweater?
I brought too many sweaters to Florida, so I decided to repurpose three of them, to make a wreath for my front door!
sweater Wreath
I just love my super cozy wreath and I had lots of scrap pieces left-over!
I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I came up with a couple of other ways to use them!
napkin rings
Who knew sweater scraps make perfect napkin rings??
vASES
I used the sleeves and the turtle neck portion of my sweater to make these adorable vases!
Don’t they look amazing all dressed up!!
