Steps to Create a Neutral Ribbon Wreath
Gather
Gather the following items to complete this project:
- Round wreath form- Dollar Tree
- Ribbon- different colors, widths, and textures- Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby
- Ruler
- Scissors
The bow in the picture above was made for my gingerbread-themed Christmas kitchen. It’s the inspiration for this wreath!
Choose the Right Ribbon
You will need several different types and widths of ribbons in coordinating colors. I used ten types of ribbon in three different widths.
To give your wreath more interest, choose different textures of ribbon. I used burlap, lace, grosgrain, and velvet. In hindsight, I would not have used velvet because it’s more expensive. Two of the ribbons are wired.
It takes a lot of ribbons to make a wreath so try to purchase them on sale. I bought most of my ribbons from Dollar Tree for $1.25 apiece. Then, I hit Hobby Lobby when their ribbon was marked down 40%.
I purchased all of my ribbons last year and used them in my holiday decor and now I’m excited to use them to create this wreath!
Cut the Ribbons
Most of my ribbons were cut into 10-inch pieces.
However, I had a few exceptions. The lace ribbon stretched when I tied it onto the form so I cut it into nine-inch pieces. The wired 2-inch width ribbon looked too short after tying it so I cut it into 11-inch pieces.
Attach the Ribbons
There are four wires on the wreath form.
Wrap one ribbon around wires one and two, then tie them together. Tie one more time to make a knot!
Next, pick a different ribbon and wrap it around wires three and four. Tie it twice to make a knot.
Then, pick a third ribbon, wrap it around wires two and three, and tie it in a knot.
Repeat these steps going all around the wreath.
Create a Balanced Design
Don’t forget to mix the color, texture, and widths, of the ribbon, as you attach it to the wreath.
Look at the back of the wreath, because it’s easy to see the pattern you create.
Hang Your Ribbon Wreath
Hang your ribbon wreath indoors or out!
I hung ours over our DIY faux fireplace and love how it looks with the yarn flower garland I created!
I adore the neutral colors and am happy to use them year-round!
Conclusion
This beautiful wreath was so simple to make!
If neutral colors aren’t your thing feel free to make it any color you like!
You can even theme it for a particular holiday!
I hope you’re feeling inspired and will try to make a ribbon wreath for your home!
