Simple solutions to organize your master bedroom
I have eight simple solutions that I used to organize my master bedroom. You should give them a try!
try File Folding clothes
I confess when I read Marie Kondo’s book “The Art of Tidying Up,” I thought she was crazy to “file fold” her clothes. However, I was intrigued because I liked the idea of seeing all of my items in the drawer. My concern was that my clothes would be too wrinkled if folded so many times. So, I never bothered to try this technique.
When we moved to Florida I decided to try it, and guess what, I love it. It took a bit of practice to figure out the folding technique for different types of fabric and sizes of drawers. I don’t use her exact method. Instead, I tried a different way of folding until I figured out what worked best for each type of clothing I had. I love how I can see every T-shirt I have now!
Next, I tried my leggings and sweatpants. I would encourage you to try this method but what’s most important, is that you use a method you like, so you’ll fold your clothes. If you like the traditional stacking method then stick with it.
Since the leggings and sweatpants worked so well, I decided to try the technique with my workout clothes. Since the fabrics are flimsy, I rolled them instead of folding them, and it worked like a charm! See, it’s ok to break the rules!
I decided to try the technique on jeans and it worked great! Rich rarely wears jeans in Florida, so there’s no use wasting closet space hanging them. If you’ve never done this, I suggest you try it instead of being stubborn like me! I wish I would have tried it sooner!
use the space under your bed
Don’t waste the valuable space under your bed! These long plastic storage bins fit perfectly under the bed and have wheels that easily slide them in and out. I store Christmas wrapping paper and supplies under my bed!
get a nightstand that has storage
In my house in Kentucky, I had two beautiful antique tables on each side of the bed. They looked great but were not very functional because I could not store anything inside them. When we moved, I knew I wanted to purchase new nightstands with lots of built-in storage. I found these in the children’s section of the furniture store. They are larger than a typical nightstand because they are a child’s dresser. They fit and function perfectly for my needs in this room!
use storage bins inside drawers
I suggest you only store items you need or want, while you are in bed, inside the nightstand. Adding bins helps keep items separated and easy to reach.
organize your jewelry
Use organization bins to store your jewelry. Someday I will have a special area in my walk-in closet for my jewelry. Until that day comes, this scenario will have to do!
hide unsightly cords on your nightstand
While I was cleaning my bedding, I snapped some shots of the crazy situation happening with these cords. I knew there had to be a better way to charge my cellphone and my iPad than having cords hanging over my headboard. Here are two solutions Rich found to solve the problem of unsightly cords.
Install charger to the back of the dresser
Rich drilled a hole in the back of my dresser and attached two USB ports inside the drawer. Now my phone and iPad can charge inside the drawer. It’s so amazing and looks so much better!
Now I don’t have a wad of cords lying on the ground or draped over my headboard. Plus it’s so much easier to vacuum since I don’t have to stop and move cords!!
Purchase a wireless charger
Rich wanted to try a cordless phone charger. He likes it, and it looks ok on the nightstand. Next year I’ll probably have him cut a hole in his nightstand, so it’s out of sight as well!!
Make space at the end of the bed functional
I love this bench, it’s so functional! And a great place to sit to put your shoes on. More importantly, it holds all of my decorative pillows while we sleep!
add a trunk for storage
A trunk is a great place to store items in a bedroom. This antique trunk was at the end of our bed until we bought the bench. Then, I moved it to the corner of the room. I like to store sentimental items inside!
Tips to personalize your master bedroom
I wanted my master bedroom to be a comfortable space where we could relax and unwind after working all day! With that in mind, I added a few items to make the room feel cozier!
create a sitting area
If you have room, create a sitting area in your master bedroom. A quiet place to read and have a cup of coffee or tea!
MAKE IT COZY
Add a throw blanket and some pillows to make it extra comfortable and cozy!
use a bed tray
Nothing says relaxation more than using a beautiful tray while stretching out on your comfy bed! Trays make eating, drinking, reading, or writing doable while in bed! If you want to see how I made over the bed tray click here!
