Do you prefer brightly colored or neutral holiday decor? I love both but embrace the beauty and elegance of neutral Christmas decor in our dining room and the foyer.
Last year, I made two DIY Christmas trees and some ornaments from a drop cloth and ribbons to use in my living room.

I’m excited to use them in my dining room as inspiration pieces.
They are beige and white, so I decided to use neutral colors!
I am adding a tree and garlands to the space.
This will provide pops of green as well!
And for an elegant touch, we’ll add gold metallics here and there!
Neutral Christmas Decor ideas for a dining room
Create a Table Centerpiece
Use a cloche
I adore glass cloches and love to incorporate them into my decor.
I tucked a miniature Christmas tree under this one and displayed it on a pedestal I recently found thrifting!
Incorporate candles
It was a great thrifting day because I also found these gorgeous white candle holders!
Next, I surrounded the items with an evergreen and eucalyptus garland and added a pearl garland.
Bring in Natural Elements
I liked the garland so much that I decided to use it in several places in the room.
Drape garland on a china cabinet
The garland looks pretty draped across the top of our china cabinet!
Make a wreath
I made this simple wreath by wrapping the garland around a circular frame and hanging it with a ribbon onto this beautiful white frame.
The frame is another thrift find that I painted white!
Decorate a mantel
We spruced up the mantel with an evergreen garland and used the same pearl garland on the table centerpiece.
Dress up a Chandelier
I took one more garland and wrapped it around the chandelier. I got this idea from my friend CoCo at The Crowned Goat.
Dress a tree with Neutral Christmas Decor
We have a skinny pencil tree that fits perfectly in our dining room.
I enjoyed decorating it with neutral decor and ribbons!
Incorporate white lights
White lights are a must for a neutral Christmas theme!
Accent with berry picks and a pearl garland
Next, I added pearl garlands for a cohesive look between the table, mantel, and tree.
Then, we added white berry picks to fill in any holes.
Decorate with neutral ornaments and ribbons
Here are the neutral ornaments I made last year that match the inspiration trees!
I also made the white paper flowers from lunch bags!
The last step was to add two different types of ribbon!
Incorporate A Bar Cart
This corner looked a little bare, so we brought in the bar cart and added neutral decor on top!
My friend, Anna from Sky Lark House, inspired me to put the tinsel trees in pretty urns!
There’s a matching one on the mantel.
Choose A Table Setting
Use a white tablecloth
Our table is gray, a neutral color, but I wanted to stick with beige and white, so I pulled out a tablecloth.
Choose neutral dinnerware
I chose a beige placemat, a cream dinner plate, and a white salad plate!
Add a personalized touch with place cards and an ornament
I made the place cards from scrapbook paper and gold sticker letters.
Next, I added a gold berry pick and laid these cute bell ornaments on it.
I made the ornaments by removing the bell from the wire pick it was attached to and adding the green velvet ribbon.
Add Metallic Touches For Sparkle
Even though we’re using neutrals, I wanted to add a bit of sparkle with pops of gold and champagne here and there!
Utensils and glassware
We used our champagne eating utensils and these pretty glasses with a gold rim!
Star tree topper
The gold star was bought at a local thrift store a few weeks ago!
Handmade tinsel tree
I made the tinsel trees from a white Dollar Tree Christmas tree and added champagne pieces to fill it out.
I opted to push the tree branches down instead of up for a different look!
DIY antique bells
I made the bells from a pick I bought at Hobby Lobby. I removed them from the wire they came on, hung them on gold leather-type ribbon, and attached them to each end of the mantel.
Neutral Christmas Decor Ideas for the Foyer
Our foyer is open to our dining room, and I like to keep the decor similar so the two spaces look cohesive!
Staircase
We draped garland on the staircase and added bows from the same ribbon we used on the Christmas tree and wreath.
Then, we embellished it with a cluster of bells that matched the ones on the fireplace mantel and the ornaments on the plates.
Lastly, we added white and gold berry picks along the garland.
Foyer
We added garland to the foyer table and nestled trees that look similar to the miniature one in our cloche.
Then we nestled the wooden Christmas trees we made between them.
We finished the space by hanging DIY antique bells I made last year over the greenery on the mirror and topping it off with a matching bow.
In Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed the tour of our dining room and foyer decorated for Christmas!

Every space is so mindfully decorated, Donna!! It’s all SO pretty!! What a brilliant idea to turn that garland into a wreath! Also, I still think it’s hilarious how we used the exact same garlands on our chandeliers 🙂 You have styled a beautiful home for Christmas, friend!

Thanks Rachel! I’m loving the neutral decor in this room and our matching garland worked perfectly in here! They say great minds think alike and we have so much in common! Merry Christmas!

Absolutely stunning. Never occurred to me to go neutral but now I shall try it – beautiful. Everything is pinned and ready to go. Thank you so very much for sharing and a very Merry Christmas.

Hi Barb! I’m so glad you like the room as much as I do! Neutrals are so beautiful and calming! You will have to try it next year! Merry Christmas!

That thrifted pedestal is calling my name Donna! I perked up right away, and was like where can I find this? I am so happy for you that you found it thrifting! It is an amazing piece. Your home looks perfect in neutrals, I would love being surrounded with your decorations all winter long! I never thought I would go traditional in Christmas decor, but I inherited many decorations from the 50’s and so it decided for me what direction to go in. I love both, and am kind all over the place when it comes to Christmas decor. I just go with what I am liking at the moment, but my cherished decorations handed down to me from my grandparents are always front and center. Hope you have a Merry Christmas Donna!

Hi Cara! Isn’t that pedestal beautiful and it was a steal at only $10.00! I’m like you and decorate every room different each year! I have not been able to show my favorite Christmas tree because it’s not decorated yet! It’s our family tree and it will be filled with ornaments our kids made and collected and cherished ornaments from our grandparents! We wait till our kids who live out of town come in, so we can decorate it together! The other trees are pretty but they don’t have the same meaning as our family tree does! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

So excited to see how the greenery around your garland turned out, Donna, it’s gorgeous! I love how you mixed homemade elements with new, thrifted and vintage finds. It gives this whole space such a beautiful layered look. It’s all really warm and inviting. Big hugs and thanks so much for the sweet shout out, CoCo
