Why have a bedroom with Haunted Mansion Decor?
If you’re new here, you might wonder why we would have a bedroom inspired by the Haunted Mansion.
First, we are Disney fanatics, and one of our favorite rides is the Haunted Mansion.
But that’s not the real reason.
We have three sons, and we let them have input into how their bedrooms would be decorated.
That was quite brave of us, huh?
Our youngest wanted his bedroom to feel like a cozy, rustic retreat he could enjoy during college breaks!
Our middle son moved here with us and wanted his bedroom to have a modern gamer vibe where he could showcase his collections!
We wanted our oldest son to move here with us, but he decided to stay in Kentucky, so his bedroom functions more like a guest room.
Many of the items in this bedroom are antiques that were handed down to us from our grandparents.
The room’s vibe reminded us of an old spooky house.
And when our son came for a visit, we went to Disney, and he purchased this artwork for the room.
The characters are from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” movie.
They replace the original characters featured inside the stretching room of the Haunted Mansion.
So, the artwork became our inspiration for the decor in his room!
The things we do for our children, lol!!
Our guests probably think it’s weird, but we love it!
Here’s a look at our not-so-scary bedroom!
Steps to Create Haunted Mansion-Inspired Decor
Here are the steps we took to create a haunted mansion-inspired bedroom!
Incorporate Antiques
You won’t find modern furniture in the Haunted Mansion.
Everything is old and looks antique!
My grandmother refinished this antique bed for me when I was a child!
I have always loved it, and it has sentimental value to me!
I hope one of our sons will always keep it in the family!
My grandparents also refurbished this clock, which sat on the mantel in the family room of our childhood home!
I always loved hearing the tick-tock sound it made and couldn’t wait for the chimes to ring out every hour!
This antique lamp looks very similar to the one at the beginning of the Haunted Mansion ride!
My grandmother converted it to an electric lamp, and my mom always cherished it!
This old rocking chair from my grandparent’s house fits right in!
Purchase Vintage -inspired bedding
The next step was to find bedding with a vintage, slightly spooky look, which I thought would be very difficult.
Surprisingly, I found this gray and black comforter set from the At Home store!
The black velvet damask-type lace reminds me of the wallpaper inside the Haunted Mansion!
Hang a Chandelier
This room would not have been complete without a chandelier!
We ordered this black candlestick chandelier from Wayfair.
When our great-niece visited in the spring, she walked into the room and said, “This room is creepy”!
Mission accomplished!
How to Add Halloween Decor to a Bedroom
We don’t have a lot of Halloween decor, so each year, I put it in a different place in our home.
In the past, we used it in our kitchen and the foyer.
This year, we added it to our Haunted Mansion-inspired bedroom to make it just a little bit creepier than it already is!
Drape Creepy Cloths
Creepy Cloths from Dollar Tree make everything look a little bit spooky!
And I forgot to tell you, I painted this dresser gray and tried to make it look old and worn with black wax!
Set Up a Spooky Apothecary
Last year, I made these fun DIY potion bottles to decorate for Halloween.
Now, we put them on the dresser to create a small apothecary!
use Black Candleholders and Candles
Black candlesticks are a must, and the crow fits right in!
Display Creepy florals
Consider using black flowers or dead flowers and branches from your yard!
Add Black and White pumpkins
Black and white pumpkins pair perfectly with the other items in this room!
Be Our Guest
Since our son decided to stay in Kentucky, his Haunted Mansion-inspired bedroom sits empty, waiting for our next guest!
We welcome any foolish mortals who would dare to stay!
We’re dying to have you!
Happy Halloween!!

This is perfect. I know how much you’re Disney fanatics
Donna Allen says
Thanks Cindy! Yes we are major Disney fans and it was a fun room to put together. Take care!

Nailed it! I love the bedroom, and would love staying here. I have to say, I am in love with your bed Donna! I love that you have had it since you were a child. I am sentimental like yourself, I have a very difficult time letting go of pieces that have been in our family. We had to have an auction this week with my grandparent’s things, and it pulled my heart strings. I was disappointed I was not able to grab it all, but I was able to pick up a few things for our home. Those vintage pieces are just not made like they used to be, and such character. I am quite fond of your spooky bedroom! Hope you are doing well.
Donna Allen says
Hi Cara! Thanks for your sweet comment! We have so much in common! I’m sure the auction was bittersweet, but I’m glad you were able to get some items to remember them by! I was hoping someone out there might like our unique bedroom as much as we do! Take care, Donna

I love that you let your sons pick the vibe they want for their rooms. It’s been fun to see their different personalities shine through in their home decor and art choices. I love that you incorporated so many family heirlooms too. It really makes the space extra special. Two of the littles adore everything spooky and haunted and Halloween so they would be over the moon to snuggle up in a place like this all season! Hugs, CoCo

Thanks CoCo! It was so fun working with each of the boys to make their bedrooms comfortable for them! I love having the majority of our antiques in one room! They are very important pieces to me!
