From size and shape to lighting options and branch material this guide explains the key factors to help you select a beautiful tree that will last for years to come.
This is the second year we have partnered with King of Christmas.
Last year they sent us this gorgeous Queen Flock Collection 4-Piece Set!
We used it from Thanksgiving through winter and decorated it in three different ways.
The set was so nice that we were thrilled to work with them again.
And this year King of Christmas gifted us this beautiful 7′ King Noble Fir Artificial Christmas Tree!
Isn’t it amazing!
We can’t believe how real it looks!
If you’re considering a new tree this year, here are our top tips to help you choose the perfect tree!
Why purchase an artificial Christmas tree
There are many perks to having an artificial Christmas tree!
We enjoy putting our trees up early and don’t put them away until after New Year’s Day so a real tree won’t last that long.
Here are some of the main reasons people prefer artificial trees!
- Allergy-free: Artificial trees don’t trigger seasonal allergies or produce pollen.
- Cost-effective: Artificial trees can be used year after year, making them a cheaper alternative to buying a real tree every December.
- Low maintenance: You don’t have to water an artificial tree or vacuum fallen needles.
- Fire safety: Most artificial trees are made with flame-retardant materials, reducing the fire risk.
There are a couple of negatives of having a faux tree.
- You don’t get the wonderful smell of evergreen. However, you can use a candle to remedy that.
- Most artificial trees look too fake and don’t mimic real trees. However, they get more realistic looking every year.
For us, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages!
How to Choose an Artificial Christmas Tree
1. Measure for Height
The first thing you should do before purchasing an artificial tree is to measure the space to ensure the tree fits well in your home.
Measure from the floor to your ceiling to determine the correct height of the tree.
Remember to leave enough room at the top for a tree topper.
2. Tree Shape and Fullness
Next, measure the width of the space to determine the fullness and shape of your tree.
Typical shapes are full, slim, pencil, and flat-back trees.
Also, decide if you want the branches to be bushy or sparse.
I love how the branches are sparse on this tree and I can hang ornaments in between the branches.
3. Needle Type
There are two types of needles on artificial Christmas trees.
- PVC Trees- A PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) tree is a “traditional” Christmas tree. They don’t look realistic, but many choose them for their vintage feel and nostalgic appearance. They are usually more cost-effective than realistic-looking alternatives.
- PE Trees- The most realistic-looking artificial trees are made with PE (Polyethylene) and often, can pass for real Christmas trees. However, they tend to be more expensive.
The good news is the best realistic trees on the market now are those made of both PVC and PE needles.
Look for trees with mixed branch types for a more realistic appearance at a lower price point!
These trees have PVC needles in the center and PE needles on the branches on the outside of the tree.
4. Pre-Lit vs. Unlit Trees
You can purchase a new Christmas tree that is unlit or pre-lit.
Let’s talk about the benefits of both!
- Unlit trees are very inexpensive offer initial savings and allow for design freedom to add any type of Christmas lights you like.
- Pre-lit trees save you time decorating because the lights are already attached to the limbs. Most trees now let you choose between clear, multicolor, and color-changing lights.
5. Tree Aesthetic
Do you have a favorite type of Christmas tree?
Artificial Christmas Trees are designed to mimic specific tree species like fir, pine, or spruce.
You can also get a tree that is flocked for a snowy effect.
6. Assembly and Storage
If you purchase an artificial tree make sure it is easy to assemble and has hinged vs. hook-in branches.
You can store your tree in the original box but it might deteriorate over time.
One of the perks of buying King of Christmas trees is that they include a storage bag.
You also get gloves to wear while fluffing your tree.
Conclusion
Selecting the right artificial Christmas tree is all about balancing your preferences with practical considerations like size, shape, and ease of set-up.
By taking the time to evaluate what features are most important to you—whether it’s the realistic look of the branches, the convenience of pre-lit options, or the overall fullness of the tree—you’ll be able to find one that enhances your holiday decor and lasts for years to come.
No matter which style you choose, investing in a quality tree means you can enjoy a festive and beautifully decorated home every holiday season.
