I’m sorry to say it has been another emotional roller coaster kind of week for us!
February has been difficult!
Usually, I would be overjoyed on this fabulous Friday, because today is my birthday.
We are going to get out of the house and celebrate tomorrow, and I know that will help cheer us up!
Let me tell you what happened this week.
What we’ve been up to this week
These are our two precious dogs, Barkley and Gracey!
We got them in 2007, they are brother and sister.
They are the sweetest Bichon Frise dogs you could ask for and have brought our family so much joy!
Their health has deteriorated over the last year, which is understandable since they will be 16 years old in May.
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our sweet Barkley on Monday.
We knew this day was coming, and I thought I was mentally prepared.
But I was wrong!
There have been a lot of tears shed in our house this week!
It is unbelievable how attached we humans can get to our pets!
It’s been tough, but we’ve been trying to keep busy working to keep our minds off of it!
Here’s what we busied ourselves with.
What we’ve been up to on the blog
We shared details about Galentine’s Day and gave tips on how to style a table to celebrate this fun occasion. Check it out to see the rest of my Valentine’s decor in the dining room!
Next, we continued the Winter Home Organization Challenge and tackled the pantry!
I didn’t change much in this area, except how I decant some of my food items. If you have questions about how to organize your pantry or want to know more about the pros and cons of decanting pantry items be sure to read it!

Nicolle says
Donna you have been on my mind all week. I know that emptiness of losing a pet all too well and I am sending you so many hugs <3
Donna Allen says
Thank you, Nicole! You are the sweetest and I appreciate your thoughts and hugs so much!
CoCo says
I am so sorry to hear of Barkley’s passing, Donna. Losing a loved one like that is one of the hardest things we will ever have to go through and my heart breaks because I know yours breaks too. While there is nothing that will ever take the place of Barkley, when you’re ready, you might want to consider getting something that reminds you of him and brings you peace. We planted a big garden when my first dog passed away and each year when the flowers bloom I think of how much joy she brought to our lives. When the second one passed away I got a piece of jewelry with her name on it. They were small things but they brought me comfort and gave me something to hold on ot. I hope you’ll find something that will bring you comfort as well. In the meantime, cry as much as you need and give yourself lots of room to grieve. Dogs have a way of touching our hearts in ways we could not have ever imagined and we are much better people because of their unconditional love. I’ll be keeping you in my prayers and wishing you a comfort filled birthday, CoCo
Donna Allen says
Hi CoCo! Thank you so much for your sweet words and sending prayers! I appreciate your friendship and kindness so much! I love the idea to get something to remember our precious Barkley! I can’t believe how many tears I have shed, and how difficult this has been! I think celebrating my birthday tomorrow will help cheer us all up! Blessings, Donna
Rachel says

Niky says
I’m so very sorry to hear about your sweet pup’s passing, I lost my dog a couple of years ago when she was also 16, and I still miss her terribly. I’m wishing you peach and comfort as you grieve your sweet Barkley.
Niky
Donna Allen says
Thank you, Niky! It is tough, isn’t it? I appreciate your support and am sorry about your dog! Sixteen years is a long time, and you do become so attached to them!
Decorative Inspirations says
Donna, I am so sorry for the loss of your dog Barkley. Our pets become are greatest companions and family members sometimes we have. It is never easy when one passes. I know exactly what you were going through. My cat is 11 and her liver is failing and I have been a mess these last few weeks taking care of her. I can barely concentrate on any else and I am trying to prepare myself for her last days. It is so tough. I hope your heart heals fast and my thoughts will be with you. Also thank you for hosting and Happy Birthday. -Meagan
Donna Allen says
Oh, Meagan, I am so sorry to hear that about your cat! It is so tricky when their health starts to decline in some way. I thought I was prepared to let him go but it was much harder on me than I anticipated. So I know exactly how you feel! I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! Hang in there, donna
Crystal says
So sorry to hear of the loss of Barkley – I know too well the pain. I know no words can help other than he was very lucky to have you. So many great ideas. I love your chenille ♡!
Donna Allen says
Thank you, Crystal, I appreciate that so much! I hope you have a wonderful week!
