I love to decorate our potting bench for every season!
During Spring, it needs to function well for gardening!
Right now it’s decorated with faux plants, while I’m deciding what I want to buy for this season!
Want to see my first purchase of Spring?
This pretty pot of succulents is real and it’s gorgeous!
The potting bench is looking great on the outside but…
it’s a mess inside!
Join me as I organize this space to get ready for gardening season!
Prepare to Organize a Potting Bench
1) Purge, Clean, and Measure
Before we organize this space we need to take everything out and start with a clean slate!
- Remove everything from your potting bench and sort the items into the following categories: keep, throw away, donate.
- Clean the potting bench from top to bottom.
- Determine how to contain items like potting soils, fertilizers, etc.
- Measure the potting bench before purchasing containers to hold items you want to keep.
2) Purchase and Prep Containers
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get organized!
- I went to Dollar Tree and purchased 5 containers for about $12.00!
- Remove the stickers from the containers.
- Make labels to use on your containers.
Ideas To Organize A Potting Bench
1) Store Soil in Lidded Containers
Here’s a great space-saving tip!
Use stackable containers inside your potting bench!
These work perfectly to contain different types of potting soil!
Don’t forget to label the boxes so you know what’s inside!
2) Store Garden Markers In a Tall Container
A tall plastic container works beautifully to hold my plant markers during winter!
Now I know exactly where to find them when I’m ready for them!
3) Contain Fertilizers
Gather your fertilizers and any chemicals you use and store them together.
4) Store Garden Gloves in a Container
We needed new gardening gloves and I put them in a plastic bin I already had!
They won’t look this pretty by next week because they’ll be covered in dirt!
Hopefully, we’ll do a better job keeping up with our gloves since we have a place to put them when not in use!
5) Hang Yard Tools With Hooks
Somehow we keep losing yard tools so I had to buy some new ones this season!
Rich installed hooks to the side of the bench and hung the tools up there!
6) Stack Flower pots In Baskets
I moved the flower pots out of the cabinet and into the wire baskets.
Now I can see how many I have and what sizes they are!
7) Display Watering Cans
Watering cans are functional tools but if you purchase attractive ones they can double as decor!
Display them on top of your potting bench!

Your potting bench looks spectacular Donna! I love the way you have it styled, and those wire baskets, are perfection! I asked my husband this weekend if he could make one for me, and now I have some inspiration to share with him. Despite the fact I cannot keep plants alive, I am excited to in the very least decorate a potting bench, lol! You always have such wonderful ideas when it comes to organizing our homes.
