Want to create a Halloween tablescape that’s both beautiful and just a little spooky? Follow our easy steps for a frighteningly fabulous table.

Imagine flickering candlelight casting shadows over a black-and-white table setting scattered with spiders to strike the perfect balance between festive and frightful.
Tips to Set a Halloween Tablescape
Whether you’re hosting a party or simply want to embrace the magic of Halloween, this tablescape will captivate your family and guests with its slightly spooky vibe!
Here are the simple steps we used to create this boo-tiful table!
Choose a Color Palette
A few weeks ago, I decorated our mantel in black and white so I’ll continue with those colors for my Halloween tablescape.
I think the balance of dark and light elements creates depth and mystery!
If you don’t want to use black and white, consider moody, rich colors like deep purple, gold, and burnt orange.
You could even add metallic accents for a touch of glamour!
Use What You Have
I’m a huge fan of shopping my house and using what I have!
It makes decorating for the seasons budget-friendly.
Even though I incorporate the same decor items, year after year, I try to use them in a different room or in a new way!
If you’ve been here since we started the blog, you might be tired of seeing these candelabras, black roses, and striped plates every October!
However, I do purchase one or two new seasonal items or create an inexpensive DIY project to add to what I already have.
Here’s what I added to my Halloween decor this year to give it a fresh look!
Search For Unique Table Linens
The first step to setting a festive table is to choose a tablecloth, runner, placemats, and napkins!
I began with a white tablecloth and found a spider-themed runner and placemats.
Isn’t this table runner the cutest?
And what about these fabulous spiderweb placemats?
You won’t believe it, but they get even better because they were free!
How did I get them for free you ask?
We have a store here called Kohl’s where I buy things we need, like socks, underwear, and bras.
After I purchased the items, the nice cashier gave me Kohl’s cash to use in the store the following week to buy things I did not need, like seasonal decor!
How fabulous is that?
Compose an Unexpected Centerpiece
It’s Halloween, so get creative with your centerpiece.
Instead of using traditional flowers in a vase, I used black roses under a cloche!
Consider buying real flowers and drying them so they look dead or creating a dramatic centerpiece with dried leaves on branches.
Use items with different heights and scatter them on the runner to add visual interest.
I added black and white pumpkins I painted several years ago and a rat from Dollar Tree.
Consider using spooky accents like faux skulls, skeleton hands, or ravens.
Set The Mood With Lighting
Add an eerie glow to your table with candles, lanterns, or string lights.
I bought these black candelabras and candlesticks from Hobby Lobby four years ago.
Prepare the Place Settings
To create the place setting, I layered a black dinner plate and a white salad plate, and topped it with a striped plate!
If you don’t own black and white dishes, consider using paper plates instead!
I saw several Halloween-themed paper plates that would look fabulous on this table.
Display Tarnished Silver
Hooray for Halloween…
the one holiday you don’t have to clean the silver before your guests come over!
Tarnished silver is perfect for a Halloween table that has a spooky vibe!
If you have silver items hiding in the back of a cabinet, pull them out and use them!
Incorporate Subtle Spooky Details
Since my runner and placemats have spiderwebs, I felt it appropriate to add some spiders to my table!
The wine glasses have spiders crawling up the stems and hanging around the rims!
Create DIY Eerie Accents
I made simple napkin holders by cutting a stripe of silver metallic cardstock, gluing it into a circle shape, and adding a spider.
This adorable spider from Dollar Tree was covered in tinsel.
I made it over using the technique I used in my DIY Halloween Bat post!
Continue the Aesthetic
Don’t stop after decorating your table!
Continue the color palette or theme throughout your dining room.

Conclusion
With just the right blend of elegance and eerie touches, your Halloween tablescape can become the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable celebration.
You can create a beautiful and spooky space by thoughtfully choosing moody colors, unique linens, and seasonal accents!
So, get creative, have fun with the details, and let your imagination run wild.

Hi Donna
I’m not a huge fan of Halloween. Your table looks great. Spiders are the only bug i can’t deal with at all.

Spiders definitely are spooky! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Your table setting looks a lot like Beetlejuice, perfect for Halloween Donna! Although I do not really decorate for Halloween much, I think this is the perfect setting for a dinner party. Black and white is timeless, and will never be out of style. You always do the holidays to perfection.

Love this so much, Donna! One of my sisters has a very modern style. Her house is mostly decorated in black and white so she will be over the moon to see how you’ve styled this tablescape for Spooky Season. The way you’ve layered all these details is extra special. I love that you got to shop for items you didn’t need a Kohls too. What a fun surprise! Hugs, CoCo
