On my weekly trips to our local thrift stores, I look for items to use or upcycle to decorate our home for every season!
Today, I’m joining my friends Rachel from The Antiqued Journey and MaryJo from Masterpieces of My Life for their monthly Thrifted Goodies Series!
I’m so excited they were kind enough to invite me to join them!
Each of us wrote a post showcasing treasures we found in thrift stores!
Below, you will find links to both of their posts.
My friend Rachel, from The Antiqued Journey, always has the best luck finding thrifted goodies!
I can’t wait to see her Fall thrift store haul!
My friend MaryJo, from Master”pieces” Of My Life, has some fabulous vintage collections!
Let’s see what interesting thrifted finds she has discovered for Thanksgiving!
Please take a few minutes to hop over and see what they are sharing!
Our Fall Thrift Store Find
We have had so much fun shopping thrift stores, yard sales, and Renninger’s market this Fall.
We’re pleased with our thrifted finds, but we also had three items given to us.
Rich’s sister and hubby visited us recently and brought us three antique tables inherited from their grandparents.
So we’ll share those with you as well!
white dishes
When I shop, I always look for white dishes, specifically ironstone and milk glass.
They are hard to find in thrift stores in my area.
I was excited to find these pieces, although I don’t think they are ironstone.
They do not have a stamp on the bottom, and the larger one looks more manufactured.
The smallest tureen has a bit of crazing and is missing its ladle, so I’m not sure about it.
But I loved the shape and design of each one and bought them anyway!
Here they are styled in my China cabinet!
Thanksgiving Plates
I have been on the search for plates to use for Thanksgiving.
I was thrilled to find these Johnson Brothers salad plates at “Fall in the Field” at Renninger’s in Mount Dora!
I have not decided how to decorate my Thanksgiving table yet, but I did play around styling them with my everyday dishes!
Aren’t they lovely!
Statues
Last year, I had an idea to decorate my Easter table with a centerpiece incorporating three crosses.
I was going to make the crosses but ran out of time and pivoted to another idea.
Imagine my surprise when I found two beautiful cross statues in the thrift store!
Please keep your fingers crossed that I can find a third cross statue by Spring!
I love fleur-de-lis items and was happy to find one as well!
In the meantime, here’s the brown cross displayed on my bookshelf for Autumn.
Gourds
I enjoy seeing how others decorate with gourds during the Fall season.
The different shapes and sizes are interesting, but I never see them in stores.
Renninger’s “Fall In The Field” to the rescue!
There was a booth filled with every size and kind of gourd you can imagine!
Here is the beginning of my gourd collection!
I can’t get over how the smallest one looks like an apple!
First, I styled them on my kitchen table as a simple centerpiece.
Later, I moved them to the bookshelves in my living room!
Items To Upcycle
When I stroll through thrift stores, I often see items I like but aren’t the color I need.
I don’t let that stop me from buying them because I can paint or upcycle them.
Then, sometimes, I spot items and think, “I can make something out of that!”
That’s the case with the items below!
They may not look good now, but I will transform them into something fabulous!
I want a small light to use on my kitchen cabinet this winter but have had no luck finding one I like.
So I decided to make one instead!
I found this small, slender lampshade and this pretty candlestick holder.
Stay tuned to see how I turn them into a remote control lamp that will fit perfectly on my kitchen counter!!
Next, I saw this large glass vase that would work perfectly for a Pottery Barn ceramic vase dupe!
I’ll add the corks in this vase to the ones I already have and make something fun out of them!
That’s a wrap on the thrifted finds we have purchased this Fall!
Now, let’s look at the antique tables we just received!
Inherited Antique Furniture
We are so excited to add some furniture pieces from Rich’s side of the family to our home!
They all need a lot of love, and with the holidays coming up, I won’t get to work on them until after the first of the year!
Wash Table
This wash table is an interesting piece.
Notice the gorgeous details on the corners.
The lid lifts open and has a mirror and two wire rods to hang towels on.
We don’t know if the bowl is original to this piece, but Rich’s sister said it has been inside as long as she can remember.
I will probably refinish this table and put it in our Haunted Mansion-inspired bedroom.
Drum Pedestal Table
I want to use this table in our primary bedroom in the sitting area, but as you can see, the top is in terrible condition.
So I think I will paint this table!
Side Table with Drawer
This is the cutest little side table.
I love the glass knobs on the drawer and the spindle legs.
We don’t have a place for this table, and the top is in such bad shape that I am considering deconstructing it.
My first thought was to make a tray out of the drawer and use the legs to make something someday!

Hi Donna! Wow, so many great finds. I love your white tureens and I actually have similar pieces. Those turkey plates are fabulous and perfect for thanksgiving. The gourds give me all the organic feels I love. I jumped on the gourd band wagon a couple of years ago and found some great ones on Etsy if you want to add more to your collection eventually. Can’t wait it see how you up cycle your piece and refurbish the furniture piece. Thanks so much for sharing with us today friend. XO- MaryJo

So many fabulous finds, Donna! I love your turkey plates and the pieces of ironstone you found too. They’re fabulous! I love that you picked up some gourds while you were at Fall in the Fields as well. They were one of the only things my sisters told us not to leave behind 😉 Big hugs and happy hunting, CoCo

You have some amazing pieces Donna, but I am in LOVE with the wash stand! The detailing caught my eye right away, and I swooned as soon as I saw it. I love those older pieces with so much character. The gourds are very different than what I have seen up this way, but I like them, quite a lot. I cannot wait to see how you style the washstand, amongst your other gifted and thrifted finds!
Donna Allen says
Hi Cara! We are so excited about that wash stand too! It is such an interesting piece of furniture! Thanks so much for stopping by today! Blessings, Donna

What inspired you to start exploring thrift stores for unique treasures this season, and do you have any tips for finding hidden gems at thrift stores?
Donna Allen says
I have been shopping thrift stores for about a year now! I love finding beautiful and unique items at inexpensive prices. My best tip is to shop at least once a week. If you only go occasionally, you will miss out on the best items! Thanks and have a great day!
