Do you see beautiful seasonal home decor in stores and magazines and wish you could do the same in your home? We can show you how to decorate for the seasons!
We have been transitioning our home decor from season to season for many years!
Let us show you how!
1) How to decorate your home for the seasons?
The easiest way to decorate for the seasons is to change your decor as the weather changes!
You can also use the holidays as a guide and change your decor at least two to four weeks in advance of the special day.
It’s very easy to add seasonal decor if you have a neutral base, but not necessary.
2) When should I start decorating for each season?
Winter
Most everyone welcomes winter by decorating for Christmas.
Many people start decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, but some people start before turkey day!
As soon as Christmas is over, consider adding some decor to ring in the New Year!
When you’re done celebrating the holidays, store all items that look like Christmas (nativities, Santas, etc.) but leave out decor that symbolizes winter. For example, evergreens, pinecones, cozy throws, and pillows.
At the end of January, sprinkle in some Valentine’s decor.
If you enjoy the Superbowl, add decorations to celebrate the big game!
At the end of February, bring out your Spring greens and add some shamrocks if you enjoy St Patrick’s day.
Spring
March signals that Spring is on its way, so put away Winter decor and bring in spring touches.
Decorate for Easter two to four weeks before the day by adding bunnies and eggs to your Spring decor.
Summer
When the weather starts getting hot in June, brighten up your home!
Consider adding some patriotic decor to celebrate our country’s founding!
If you don’t want to switch up your decor inside, think about ways to spruce up your outdoor porches and decks with beautiful plants and flowers!
Fall
Around Labor Day, when the temperatures start to drop, start adding cozy Fall decor!
October brings Halloween, so add some festive decor that trick-or-treaters will love!
At the beginning of November, decorate for Thanksgiving!
Decorate for Christmas when you are ready, if that happens to be before Thanksgiving, it’s ok!
3) What type of decor should I use each season?
Decorate with the colors that you see during the season!
Fall drops leaves that are red, deep gold. burgundy, or brown.
Spring ushers in flowers with pastel and soft colors.
Summer brings bright colors, with sunflowers and oranges.
Winter brings snow with a covering of white.
Add seasonal elements
Bring the outdoors in!
- Pumpkins and leaves are the perfect touches for fall!
- Nests and birds say hello spring.
- Seashells and sunflowers make us think of summer.
- Evergreens, pinecones, and candles say winter.
Change textiles
Switch your pillows and throw blankets for each season.
Light materials in spring and summer.
Warm and cozy heavier materials in fall and winter.
Decorate your front door
When I was a kid, my Mom always decorated the front door for the holidays!
So if you’re not up for changing your decor inside, think about how you can spruce up your front door to welcome family and guests!
4) How can I decorate seasonally on a budget?
So you like the idea of decorating for each season, but you’re worried it will be expensive!
I have good news, you don’t have to pay a fortune for pretty seasonal decor!
Here are our best tips to decorate seasonally on a budget!
