Why create an organized entryway?
There are two main reasons why I think having an organized entryway is essential!
1) First, an organized entryway allows you and your family to enter and exit your house with ease! No more wasting time looking for your keys or your sunglasses! Everything will have a home so you know exactly where to find it!
2) Second, it’s nice to have a pretty place for family and friends to enter your home. You don’t want guests to have to walk around a pile of shoes or backpacks to get inside!
my best ideas for an organized entryway
It’s easy to walk into your home and drop the items you’re carrying in the first available spot!
Unfortunately, that causes clutter to build up!
Instead, find practical ways to store the items you and your family need when you enter and exit your home!
This will look different for everyone depending on the size and number of entryways you have in your home!
Here are my best ideas to organize an entryway!
1) Find A place for keys
Hang keys on the wall
Hang a keyholder on the wall beside your door!
Put keys in a bowl
Place a bowl or basket on the table beside your door!
Keep keys beside your bed
Some people like to keep their keys beside their beds. If an intruder enters the house, you can hit the car alarm to scare them off!
2) Use hooks to hang things
If you don’t have a coat closet in your entryway, you are going to have to create a way to hang things.
Hang hooks near your door
This makes it easy to hang up coats, purses, and backpacks near your door!
Bring in a coat rack
A coat rack is a perfect place for guests to hang coats, purses, and umbrellas!
3) Find a home for shoes
Use a shoe tray
Store shoes in baskets
Right now, we are using this bench to store pet supplies, but in KY we used the baskets to store shoes!
4) Create a mail station
Mail can easily pile up in your entryway or on your kitchen counter, table, or desk.
Instead, create a place to put it near your entryway by making a mail station.
Use vertical space on a wall
Use a basket or trays on your wall to hold incoming and outgoing mail!
Create a way to file papers
After you open the mail, place the paper you are keeping into desk trays or folders!

5) Store pet supplies near the door
If you take your dog for a walk, hang leashes and pet waste bags near the door!
I hope my ideas have inspired you to create an organized entryway(s)!
To make the job easier use my six-step strategy and you’ll be organized in no time!
Use the 6/P Strategy to organize your entryway
PREPARE
Set up an area near your entryway with a trash bag, a cardboard box, and 2 laundry hampers for the following categories:
- Trash
- Donate
- Relocate
- Replace
PURGE
Begin by removing everything in the space and put it in one of the four categories:
- Trash goes in the trash bag.
- Place any items you wish to donate or sell in the cardboard box.
- Put items that need to go into a different room in laundry hamper # 1.
- Place items that need to stay in this space in laundry hamper #2.
POLISH
Use a top-down approach to deep clean the area.
PERSONALIZE
Answer the following two questions:
- How does the space need to function for my specific needs?
- How can I make the space more visually appealing?
PLACE
- Discard the trash bag.
- Take your cardboard box to a donation center of your choice.
- Place everything in laundry hamper#1 in the room it belongs.
- Place everything in laundry hamper #2 back in the entryway in an organized manner.
PUT BACK
You must train yourself to put things back in the place you designated they should go. Otherwise, clutter will pile up again.
